This business needs to come together as a community.

We could do it, wouldn't be that hard. Get things back on track.. Everybody in this business looks at each other as competition when we should have each other's back.. When we see a wrong doing we should point it out. Even Tube Sites have their place here, it's the new way of getting eye balls to your product but posting Full Videos is just out of line. The fact that that alot of it is stolen make it worst. These sites that post or steam stolen material are thieves plain and simple and deserve to be dragged threw the mud.

We come together as a community it would be better for everybody's bottom line. :2 cents:

man we could hold hands and everything:)

hehe jk

you are on the ball though...but im not sure it would work, everyone would always want to get one up on everyone else....but cutting out all the full length free stuff would be a good start that seems reasonable

tony286 02-18-2008 09:03 PM

herding cats would be easier.

kane 02-18-2008 09:09 PM

Will never happen. There have been many times even when we have been facing new laws and regulations that could greatly damage us that people have bitched and whined and refused to help in any way.

Don't believe me? Start up an adult lobbying group and then ask everyone on GFY to give you $25 to fund it. Some will, some won't and many will insist you are a scammer, you can't change things, you have no hope, you are wasting your time, you are just trying to get famous, you have an agenda, you caused 9/11, etc.

We are what the internet is meant to be, a vast collection of people from all over the globe doing whatever they want. I can't see that changing no matter how good for us it would be.

It will never happen people in this business are too money hungry, and full of jealous and anamosity.

Obviously you are never going to have everyone on board but a united force of webmasters all with the same basic principles would be an excellent idea.

In 12 years, even with a common cause I've yet to see it happen. And it surely wouldn't happen because some of the "big boys" did it.

It's just not our way. I'm sure uniting would benefit us, but not enough to really force us to take action as an industry and that is the very reason why it hasn't happened in the past.

It's a good idea man. I do not think anyone thinks it is bad. But it simply is unrealistic until you raise the bar to eliminate the fry cooks.

Those who actually do ONLINE BUSINESS (i.e. file taxes, treat it, and run it like a BUSINESS) are the people who need to make the decisions on such things. But as long as you have the mercenaries, fry guys, and beer money barons in the equation. It simply is unrealistic.

While there are even further complications. I'll leave it at that for now. You simply need to raise the low end of what it takes to get into online. Mainstream, or adult.

This has been brought up more times in the last 10 years than I can count so I don't see it happening any time soon. What I do see happening is more people following trends and, in most cases, making the problems worse.

Sure, if the big dog would ALL get together and start something than MAYBE the small and medium fish will jump in... MAYBE. Of course, I don't see this happening any time soon. It will be way to late by the time something like this happens.

As much as many of us would like to see something like this all we can do right now is dream.

Martin 02-18-2008 09:39 PM

If you don't think it would work just take a look at the RedTube/Twisty's thread. Shap got called out for supporting a site that uses stolen content. GFY held his feet to the fire. Next day, he re-moved his promotions there.. Shap is a smart business man and saw the long term picture.. We just need to bring the rest over from the dark side.

Yes there has.

I worked my ass off to get people unified to fight piracy.

I got 79 studios to show up to the piracy roundtable.

Out of that came a group that is fighting piracy. There are 20 some odd companies working together so far with the group.

Here is where it deviates.

People still sit on here and bitch, because thats what makes them feel better. They will continue to do that. They won't do a damn thing.

The people who will do something are doing it. The ones who won't never will.

The Piracy seminar at the Xbiz show was a pitiful showing. That place should have been standing room only, but maybe had 75 people in there. I walked to the pool and through the hallways of the Roosevelt during the piracy seminar, and the halls were packed and the pool was going off with supposed industry "leaders" and people who attended the show goofing off, getting drunk, and not really giving a rats ass to talk about the biggest issue on the table in this business right now.

At that point I pulled myself from giving a fuck. If everyone goes out of business, then well, see ya!

To the people who were in there, and I know who you are, I still got your back on anything you may need. Period.

:2 cents:

That's enough of my evening on this subject.

I respect you Martin I think you know that.

jakethedog 02-18-2008 09:50 PM

there are anti-piracy meetings here and there ... my programmer hits everyone he can .. and everyone else should do the same .. I think guys like A1r3k and baddog are in the know with it all .. if your interested I am sure this would be the very first place to start ... the more involved the more likely there is to be a victory

I can be reached pretty easy.

At this point it's pretty much put up or SHUT THE FUCK UP as far as I am concerned.

It's the witching hour.

I don't even read people bitching about content theft anymore. If they want to do something, pick up the phone, call me, icq me, or email me before they go running to GFY and I will make sure that someone that wants to do something and can do something talks with you, otherwise, don't send me links to gfy threads about so and so stealing content. We know who the scammers are. Some of them I haven't even dropped a dime on here at GFY, instead we are doing stuff about it.

Threads bitching about content theft should be edited and replaced with the contact information for the PAK Group.

Period.

Thanks for the thread and motivation Martin. I've always thought that you're a good guy.

:)

We cant even agree on what piracy is.

I would love that we could all get together and put together a definition, it would be a start at least.

But until EVERYONE agrees people will just be agreeing to thier own demise.

We fought for freedom on the net.... now we have it, warts and all.

Disclaimer - This is my opinion and may or may not be the opinion of MaxCash.

seeric 02-18-2008 10:21 PM

Had people attended the Piracy meetings or paid attention here for the last 8 months, they would know the difference between the issues at hand.

Benefiting from content theft (Contributory Infringement) = a business entity generating revenue at the expense of a producer who does not receive due compensation for content responsible for generating revenue shared by the parties involved in the revenue generation. This would be for advertisers and site owners.

Piracy is the act of removing and uploading the content to the knowing infringing network in my opinion. This would be your members and renegades and owners of sites who do it on their own.

Someone else elaborate, I don't feel like thinking like a lawyer right now.

seeric 02-18-2008 10:26 PM

Listen Im all for getting together, if anyone who made more then $1000 a month from adult put in $50 a person you would have a very large war chest but its not going to happen. You got people who are very short sighted they are making money now and they arent thinking about tomorrow. I think alot of the big dogs want to see a big down fall.It gets rid of alot of the small mom pop competition who cant ride out the storm.

A handful of guys own 80% of the major programs so I think they should get together and lay down the law.

Legal action should be taken when necessary.

And other times, some nerds need to get their fingers broken.

It's time to stop being pussies about this. People are literally stealing and destroying the business in the process.

CDSmith 02-19-2008 12:11 AM

There are always going to be a sizeable group of idiots out there who are in this business solely for themselves and their own short term gain even if it's at the expense of others. No organized movement is ever going to gather in those types no matter what the cause is.

However... I do think that when certain causes or issues come up, the webmasters of GFY (and of other boards) really DO come together at times. Certainly an aweful lot of us donated to the fund to fight Acacia that Far-L and a few others started.

On thinking back, after the planes hit on 9/11 some of us (including myself) designed donation banners and one hell of a lot of us put those banners up on our sites in order to help the Red Cross and the official relief fund effort.

If the cause is big and important enough, those who are serious do tend to get behind it, even if only by paypalling a few bucks. You don't always see who is behind a cause either, it's not like a lot of the big dogs will post here to say "I donated" or "I support this"... some prefer to lurk (for understandible reasons)

But like I said, official organization or not there will always be the useless group, and trying to recruit them would be effort wasted.

Zester 02-19-2008 02:27 AM

it doesn't have to be official, it doesn't have to include a lot of "big boys", it doesn't have to change the face of this industry - it just has to be a community that benefits it's members - that's all.

the problem is the high hopes everyone has for a kind of group like this.
this "group" shouldn't be responsible for fighting stolen content or anything like that...it should be some kind of quiet clique, a group of adult webmasters that includes content providers, content site owners, designers, programmers, affiliates etc. that are all business men that are doing better business with each other to make more money than they would if they were alone.

the group will inform each other of cheating traffic traders, webmasters that you shouldn't do business with, list of sites to banish, list of sites that provide good webmaster resources, the group will enjoy special design or program deals for group members...those kind of things.
basically networking with benefits, in order to join you need to provide a needed service to the group, and if you fuck someone in the group - you get banned and can never enjoy all of the above.
why can't we do that ? something in those guidelines

Zester 02-19-2008 02:31 AM

again, the thing is you keep talking about what will never happen.
lets try to form something that we know COULD happen - something smaller that is more realistic

Asking this on a board that's infected with surfers, sig whores and idiots is pretty Ironic.

Actually PornWolf, I think that the handful of guys are better off letting it it go like this. This way it will be easier and cheaper for them to pick up the pieces.

surfers and wig whore idiots were not the people in the hallways and by the pool while the piracy seminar was going on. these were the industries supposed "cream of the crop" bullshitting, laughing, and getting drunk while the hardest hitting issue in the business right now was being discussed.

as soon as everyone can accept that there is no "WE" in this business we can move on and take care of ourselves, or at least the group of people who do believe there can be a "WE"

just my 2cents and i don't speak for anyone but myself.
