Do you own an elliptical machine?

What brand and would you recommend it?

The Life Fitness CT9500HRR is $5k (3 grand refurbished!), but it's the nicest one I've ever used. I'm just not sure if I'm ready to plunk that kind of dough out for it....

I have used a couple Life Fitness ellipticals at health clubs, have never found another machine as smooth and perfect.

I just bought a gold's gym bike for $200 - works perfect in front of the 42" plasma :thumbsup

I was going to get an ellipitical but don't really care for them - I wouldn't spend more than 1K though.

I think it may have ruined every other elliptical out there for me. Every time I get on one at a store I just kind of throw up in my mouth a little... and long for the Life Fitness.

I never realized I was using a 5k machine at the gym LOL! I probably would have appreciated it more :D

I have used and destroyed 2 of the cheaper "home gym" type elipiticals in the $500-$800 range. They don't last worth a fuck, so you need to go with the more expensive ones likes Life Fitness.

I just gave up and started running outside instead.

There's no way I'll spend under a grand. I'm hoping to find a decent alternative under 2k, if I go over that - I might as well dive into the 3k Life Fitness machine.

Wolfy 02-18-2008 09:18 PM

oh and LOL! Running outside would be great if I lived somewhere else... right now I can't make it to my truck without holding onto the wall at points, my sidewalk is ice and the driveway is under 4" of snow AFTER I shoveled 3 times today... The rest of the block is the same or worse :D

I own a used one I bought off some chick. I would have to go and see what it is. It works nice. I still do my treadmill as well. Plus Bowflex.

Wolfy 02-18-2008 10:02 PM

what kind is it?

Have you used nicer ones? How do you feel about it compared to the nicer ones? Do you get aggressive on it?

needlive 02-18-2008 10:10 PM

I wanted to buy one once but the chick in the shop told me I couldn't use it.

I ran away.

SleazyDream 02-18-2008 10:14 PM

precore and they rock - about $3k

venus 02-18-2008 10:38 PM

I have the Stairmaster 7000 PT Stepmill

this is the exact same one that are found in most gyms and its probably the absolute best cardio machine on the market.

tiger 02-19-2008 12:49 AM

They break all the time get a good mid level one for 500-700 bucks and get an extended warranty.

After Shock Media 02-19-2008 12:54 AM

I just use a hamper and close hangers.

kmanrox 02-19-2008 01:35 AM

i have an epileptic machine but i have meds to keep them to a minimum

mattz 02-19-2008 01:36 AM

I do 30 jumping jacks every morning

fuzebox 02-19-2008 01:36 AM

I'd love a Life Fitness... I haven't seen any cheaper unit that looks like it'll take the abuse that I would give it. Especially around here, all you see are the $3-600 ones which seem like they'll snap into pieces the first time you use it.

The only reason I keep my gym membership is for the elliptical on the days that my legs are sore, I already have a weight bench at home :Oh crap

mona 02-19-2008 01:39 PM

The ellipticals sold on the Home Shopping Networks are pieces of crap...Fork out the extra cash, it'll be worth it!

Brother Bilo 02-19-2008 01:42 PM

The ellipticals are the only thing I've found that don't totally kill my knees. Those stairmasters aren't too bad either, once I fight through the pain of the first 10 minutes or so.

But running outside? Holy shit, I'd be crippled the rest of the night after that.

cybermike 02-19-2008 01:46 PM

I got one for 500 bucks off of craigslist.. the guy selling it was 2 blocks away.. it was very squeeky but after finding the sweet spot with a can of wd-40 it was perfect..

Norditrack cx 1050 it was a bitch getting it into the house

Not as great as the ones at the gym but its good enough

Fizzgig 02-19-2008 03:45 PM

Get a 3rd floor apartment in a building with no elevators. Help all your neighbours with their moving for free, and run errands for all the loder people on your floor.
