how to do this? (WinXP question)
Ok I have an application that seems to crash often... but i need it running all the time
anybody know if there is something that can be scheduled to check if the application is running, and if not.. start the damn thing? I know how scheduler works but I cant find anything that checks to see if an application is running.. and if not, then start it |
orrrrrrrr, find the problem and fix it ;-)

If it absolutely, positively has to run.
NEVER use any version of windows try a UNIX Based OS. |

You can try to search for the job running, kill it (if found) and then restart it. Sort of the equivalent of kill -9 scriptname and then relaunching on a unix platform.

Try Ctrl + Shift + Tab and you'll see the running programs.

looks like nobody understood the question

Well.. if it crashes completely and leaves no remnant of itself (like an application-titled window), then here's what I suggest:
1. Go to http://www.acrasoft.com/ and pick up a license of GroundControl (cheap) 2. Write up a simple macro which checks if the app is running, if not it simply starts it up again.. (Not sure here, but it's not unlikely that You can do a more advanced check, like whether a registered app (hung or not) is responding) 3. Create a job which runs something like "%GroundControl%\gc.exe -r MyRestarterMacro.gc" every 5 minutes or whatever... ("%GroundControl%" = directory where G.C. was installed) Mission completed :) I love this shit, I'm a geek with this kind of stuff... (as much as my time & money allows it) |
or you can reinstall your windows . but take it as a final option

as far as i remember it is possible in nncron. You can set up a task and tell it to run only if a specific process exists / doesn't exist. Haven't touched it for some 2 years though

Why dont you turn the application into a NT Service?? that restarts the app when it goes down :)
