You Decide! XBIZ Summer Forum 2008 - what type of music do u wanna hear by the pool?

we've been spinning club music but it's time for a change.

what do you guys wanna hear during pool hours - Rock, Hip-hop or Pop?

we're also going to be turning down the volume a couple of notches so we won't have to yell at eachother. :)

CyberAgeGary 02-18-2008 02:36 PM

A mixture of Trance and Hip Hop would be good. Throw some rock and roll in there in the later hours, and were all set.

The DJs played a variety of music both days. I know I was there every minute of both days. There's no way to make it any more diverse than it was. There were even amounts of hours of Hip-Hop and "CLUB" music, (whatever that is categorized as), and probably the most diverse selection of music ever at a webmaster show. There was even a few hours that we put on rock music for people. You will NEVER please everyone at a show that has such an age range of attendees and cultural backgrounds or lasts that many hours outdoors at a venue like that. Everyone is going to want something different at exact times. I think that for the crowd that was there the music was as evenly diversified as it could have possibly been. If you want music other than Top 40, Hip Hop, and Club which was only played about 50% of the time at the pool, I might suggest you get a wedding DJ. For the record, we had ZERO complaints year two about the music or people wanting ridiculous music genres like country (which we did have year one). What do I know though. Just a thought, but you will NEVER make everyone happy. Minus the technical difficulties with the hard rocks sound system, I personally believe it went off without a hitch. The DJs, YTcracker, Krosh, Abyss Al all made sure the the music did not stay one certain place for any length of time. It was awesome.

I really thought Airek did a good job last year. I heard a good mix of Classic rock and some other music.

RevSand 02-18-2008 05:22 PM

A mix of party music always fits those type of events.. I would say you just want something in the background everyone can enjoy.. 80's, hiphop, one hit wonders, pop, etc...

What we had last year was a mixture of trance, club, hip hop, pop and some classic rock and lots of commercial mashup.

There is no possible way to play it any better than we did. The crowd that shows for this convention is one of the hardest to play and please that I have ever done. You have people from ages 18 all the way to their 60's and 70's showing up. It is near impossible.

We pull it off every year somehow, but I dare you to play country music or metal for any length of time until the xbiz staff phones are blowing up in an outrage. Hell, we played classic rock for about 45 minutes and the young people at the show (which is the overall majority) damn near had conniption fits and drowned in the pool. You can't play music that the majority of the party doesn't want to hear.

Sorry, thats just the way that parties are. If you want to please everyone you play

one rap, one electronic, one metal, one country, one polka, one trance, one riverdance, one classical, one pop, one rock, one r&b, and REPEAT this order all day. That is the only way to be fair. But let me tell you, this will ruin your party atmosphere. You have to let the DJs do what they do. Read the crowd. The day has a progression, from morning into the evening. There are certain things that need to get played at certain times. Etc. Etc.

Whoever is the DJ this year, I really feel for them. It is NOT an easy party to play.

I would suggest that you do not allow the Hard Rock to charge you for their DJ or bring one in. They do not have the music you want, no way, and they will play "CLUB" music all day long.

The DJ you are looking for doesn't exist unless you want to get a wedding DJ who will crap all over your party and sound like shit. Or some crappy strip club DJ.

I would personally suggest that you ask KROSH to do it. He is the best DJ in adult in my opinion.

In my professional opinon for the last two shows I've been responsible for the music and it's gone off without a hitch every year. We are complimented every year by tons of people that attend the show on how diverse and all encompassing we are musically. This year as you know I am retired, but if you want me to help out with the format I can help you. I've formatted parties for 15 years, it's what I do.

Airek

theres a shit kicker bar across the street from the hard rock.

you and maybe 3 other people want to hear country music at a pool full of hot women who don't want to hear country.

just being honest. you want the girls having fun and doing crazy shit, you play hip hop and whatever everyone here is describing as club.

bottom line, djs play for the girls and as long as the girls are happy so is the rest of the party. djs rulebook. chapter 4, paragraph 1.
