Test Your Host

I know we've been pushing the Cavecreek CDN in here lately, but give us a chance to show you what it can do.

Post a link to a file on your site and we'll test it against your current host and against our network to show the difference.

Our test site can't run through protected files, so posting a link to a tour video works great. Once the test is run, I'll post the screen shots to show what the results look like, better or worse.

I've already run a few this morning from random sites and it's impressive.

Let's see what you got.

Get ahold of one of the sales guys at sales (at) cavecreek.com and they'll go over all the pricing details with you in detail.

Spudstr 02-18-2008 12:09 PM

Its pretty obvious a CDN will out perform any single location host.

Whats the secret?

I dont really understand the technical stuff. Why are they so good?

Jet - BANNED FOR LIFE 02-18-2008 12:13 PM

Also, do i understand this right:

the service is geared to huge media sites rather than individual webmasters? Correct?

basicly it caches your static content world wide, geo-dns will send your end user to the closest POP. So in other words your member is in EU somewhere they will get a CDN cluster in EU which has a cached copy of your static images/content.

The closer your content is to your end user the faster it will be delivered. Especially if your going across the Atlantic or the Pacific.

Anyone can take advantage of it, the only downside is that it will be cached and will stay cached until however long the TTL is set on those objects expires. Its more expensive than traditional hosting but it will deliver faster. most of the world it doesn't matter but people running large operations that can leverage aw ay for it to offload some loads on their main cluster, without spending the $$ to replicate their setup somewhere else its a no brainer.

Not meant as a "hijack" Im sorry if you took it that way at all I just think if ccbill / cave creek are going to "test your host" they should test CDN To CDN
IMHO, as most notable hosts that post on this forum offer CDN as well.

It doesn't exactly work that way. Basically, what I'm testing for you is the time it takes to download a specific file, I can't test the whole site.

So send me a file from each of those sites and I'll be glad to test it for you. :thumbsup

interesting that it says my hosting origin is Europe, considering it is natnet in downtown Atlanta

can you explain the graphic more?

It looks like he was mousing over that spot in Europe when he took the screenshot, it means on CDN its a 3sec download from that area, versus a 19 sec download from your host in Atlanta

Ya, actually that was my fault, I just had just my cursor over that node when I took the screen shot.

Basically, what this graphic demonstrates the download speed for each particular geographic location. Each of those dots represents a node that we utilize in order to make sure the content is easily received no matter where the original host is.

That particular node just shows that people in that particular area could download your file in 3.783 seconds as opposed to the 19.447 seconds that it would take if they were pulling it from your original server.

Jace 02-18-2008 02:01 PM

I guess if I was really concerned about someone getting my file in 50 seconds versus 10 seconds it would worry me, it isn't something I ever really thought about though, or cared to be honest

as a surfer I never went to one site because it downloaded faster, I go to what I like and wait as long as necessary to get what I like

and unless the network is constantly giving me 10kb/sec downloads ALL the time, I was never really worried

In Conepuppy's defense, LOOK at the size of the file that was supplied. It is 55 Megs in size compared to some of the other files tested that were only 0.2 megs in size.

All Brother Bilo is trying to point out is the difference in DOWNLOAD speeds using a CDN as opposed to downloading from your server. He is not trying to show the difference in hosts. The only way you could compare hosts if if everyone used the exact same sized file.

Before you start comparing hosts in this thread, make sure you are looking at the file size submitted to Brother Bilo for testing.

Also, with a CDN, the larger the file you put on a CDN, the more of a performance gain you will see.
