It's over. Blue Ray wins
TOKYO (Reuters) - Toshiba Corp (6502.T: Quote, Profile, Research) is planning to give up on its HD DVD format for high-definition video, conceding defeat to the competing Blu-Ray technology backed by Sony Corp (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research), a company source said on Saturday.

Good, now i hope we will see cheap blue ray recorders avaible.
|
Outstanding. I've been putting off buying one for fear of chosing the 'wrong' format.
|
I saw a blue ray dvd for the first time last night... DAMN that was some amazing quality!

i need a blue ray player

Is "planning" doesn't make it official yet. They're going to wait until they get rid of some of the hardware they're sitting on before doing so. Then once they've suckered a few people into buying now defunct technology, they'll make the official announcement.
Won't be long before GatorB arrives to turn this into an arguement. |

I bought an HD-DVD player (Toshiba) that came with 2 HD DVD Discs (Bourne Ultimatum and 300) and there was an HDMI cable in the box also. All of this for $130 - The HD up convert does a great job in my opinion and there is no need to buy a new Blu-Ray player yet.:2 cents:

As much as I hate to see Sony's usual propriatery products succeed, I think it's good that there will finally be a standard. I was routing for you HD-DVD...but now...R.I.P.

It will be interesting if the price of blu ray players drops now. Im waiting for hd dvd sales now got a list of what I want to get.
|
Sony is dropping it, like it's hot
|
Good deal :)
|
Its only fair, since Sony got dry ass fucked on the Betamax.

Didn't Wal-Mart just announce they are only selling Blu-Ray DVD exclusively now and dropping HD DVD completely? I think that's pretty much the nail in the coffin if Wal-Mart is making that kind of decision.

If America had a broadband plan I might agree that digital downloading would take over sooner rather than later. With the exception of Verizon and it's FiOS most other companies plans are if they can't make immediate money form you you're shit out of luck. Even though over time investment in rural areas will pay off. I'm 100% sure that it was hardly profitable to put phone service out in the boonies. I'm pretty sure the phone companies are glad there are MILLIONS of customers now living in the boonies they can make money from. They need to be thankful that their predecessors weren't as short sighted at they are. |
I need a BlueRay Player...
|
Time to get a blu-ray player.
|
This is good news for Sony...
|
