what if we miss the Satellite

what if a few attempts to shoot down this satellite fail?
won't that be embarassing?

tony286 02-14-2008 08:54 PM

especially if it lands in a city it would be very bad.

Spunky 02-14-2008 09:05 PM

Sure as hell hope it doesn't land here

WiredGuy 02-14-2008 09:07 PM

Yea, but it's better to have had some real target practice and know for sure whether we can do it or not.

:2 cents:

I assume the US military already has that capability. If the Chinese can do it, it seems very likely we can too. After all, the Chinese steal their ballistic missile technology from us.

SykkBoy 02-15-2008 09:00 AM

hopefully it's worked out so that it lands in the Middle east somewhere ;-)

HAPPYPEEKERS 02-15-2008 10:33 AM

Dont worry they have calculates the trajectory so that it lands in the city of one of the terrorists strong holds.

No worries.

Tom_PM 02-15-2008 10:45 AM

My first thought was also "shit, we better not miss it"..

Evidently when the space shuttle pieces landed across texas, there was also thalium oxide or whatever it is. Luckily it hit an unpopulated area. They say if it were to hit, it would contaminate an area about 180 meters long or so. Not too big, but still nasty. Long exposure can lead to death. BTW it's calculated to impact in north america if not brought down.

I want it to land in the desert a couple miles from my place. I'll have the pieces up on ebay in an hour :thumbsup

I only missed Skylab by about 300 miles in 1979 but there was no ebay back then anyhow :winkwink:

Rochard 02-15-2008 10:56 AM

Oh shit - the sky is falling for real this time!

got a link to that?

Last I heard they have no control over it and won't be able to narrow down the area the bits might land if it doesn't burn up in the atmosphere until a few hours before it hits?

yuu.design 02-15-2008 11:05 AM

nooooooooo we are not , because George Bush just give order for the destruction of the Satellite!!! lol we cant believe anything what he say .

That would be some pretty piss ass luck to be in a jet that got hit by a falling satellite.. I think the odds would be up there pretty freaking far. :winkwink:

When the first US space station Skylab was brought back to Earth on a semi controlled decent.. The damn thing hit and killed a cow. Can you imagine the odds.. :1orglaugh

CyberAgeGary 02-15-2008 12:32 PM

Remember Taco Bell had a promo on something a few years back, that if it landed on their banner or something in the ocean, somebody would win some money???

AH heck no I wish I had a link. It was said on cnn or msnbc during the first few days of the news. I hope you're right, but I know it must be expected to hit land or they wouldnt shoot at it at all.

:helpme

teksonline 02-15-2008 12:36 PM

I dont think the fact we miss being a failure is the insult we are facing,
It has something to do with a massive explosive device floating around endlessy and aimlessly in space lol.... It's something be be worried about more than you can imagine... do you realize what a little screwdriver lost in space may be able to do damage wise?
