Can anyone see a downside to living in Detroit?

Exorbitant property taxes, but also crime, unemployment...etc. It's a war zone. The locals are also very rude.

I've been to Bloomfield MI i think just north of Detroit and its really nice. Houses are not pricey either ... but downtown is just like NYC ....

because alongside Vegas its at the top of the most foreclosures zip code list.

because detroit is the GHETTO, you need to move bnorth about 15-20 minutes from detroit then you find all the nice areas and nice houses

Imagine living across the country and still trying to sell a perfectly nice home 2 years later? That's me!

I feel terrible for the city, but am very glad I got out.

all of Michigan is torn up.. you can even get pretty decent prices in the UP unless it's like land on lake superior.

I have a friend on Lake Michigan who is keeping an eye on things for me. He thinks in a year I should be able to get a nice remote house on the lake for dirt cheap. I don't plan to sell it - I'll leave that problem to those who have to execute my will :)

On a side note, Northern Michigan is a beautiful area.
