NY Yankees

Looks like they won't be winning the World Series this year.

FlyingIguana 10-05-2002 07:22 PM

luxery tax is gonna own them for years to come

foe 10-05-2002 07:30 PM

:waaaaahh :ak47:

buzzard 10-05-2002 07:57 PM

haha looks like the Yanks are done... nothing like an 8 run Angels inning to clinch a series.
Watch out AL; Cards are in the NLCS !

greentea 10-05-2002 07:58 PM

Its OKAY the yanks will take it next year..

B40 10-05-2002 08:18 PM

Made the worse moves this year picking up Mondesi and Weaver..

chass 10-05-2002 08:21 PM

Damn....the Bronx Bombers out? That sucks....World Series won't be worth watching now!

Mondesi is better than what they had (although Cliff Floyd would have been a lot better pick-up), and wait 1-2 years before you write off Weaver. I saw him a few times as a Tiger, and he was impressive. I think the trade shocked him, and he never got adjusted. He hasn't been the same pitcher, but I bet he gets his shit together next year.

I hope they get another lefty reliver to help Stanton, and move Soriano to left field. 39/100 is more production than any outfielder not named Bernie Williams, but his defense is not too hot. Let him play left, and bring in a good glove man to turn the DP's.

I think the Yanks just ran into a hot team, and if you ask me, it is the Angel's year. Something special is going on there, that fucking rally monkey is bad mojo.

Modesi was better but do you think he was worth what they paid for him? Not like they care but what a waste of money...

And don't forget Weaver came from Detroit and pitched in a very pitcher friendly ball park...although he was a good pitcher in Detroit he's not doing so well in NY..

Nope!!! We are!

i don't really see the yankees going into the free agent market this winter. if they retain their free agents except for ventura, they'll be looking at a 136 mil payroll with clemens.

now add on the increased rev sharing and luxery tax and you're looking at about 160sh payroll. not sure if toronto still pays part of mondesi's contract next year, but the yanks might be maxed out on cash.

DTK 10-05-2002 09:16 PM

Works for me..I'd rather have the A's playing the Angels in the LCS.

SykkBoy 10-05-2002 09:27 PM

I fucking love it...low payroll ball clubs kicking ass :)

I'm a longtime diehard Braves fan, but would like to see the Twins in there just to spite Cancer Selig...contract this, bitch.

The Yankees-Angels series has been the most ecxciting...seeing this underdog beat the Mighty Yanks and the way they did it...hopefully this will bring some attention to guys like Eckstein, Glaus and Anderson who go unnoticed due to so many games that start late for east coast viewers...

Also, have to go with the sentimental thing with St. Louis...losing a top quality pitcher and announcer the same year and still battling through...and just steamrolling the D'Backs...

Just some damn good baseball today...the A's-Twins game was just fun to watch. I don't really have a favorite between the two (other than to see the Twins to succeed despite some hefty odds) and the game was just entertaining....

So, tomorrow after the Braves beat the Giants, they can concentrate on a very tough St. Louis team....I can't wait.......

buzzard 10-05-2002 09:34 PM

right on Sykk!.. Yanks and Angels best series so far..

Cards are HOT; it's you and me baby .. haha

Me too. Love the low payroll underdog teams winning...

Toronto has to eat a large portion of Mondesi's contract - he actually came pretty cheap, and makes Spencer/VanderWhal looks like bush leaguers in the field. If he can hit .280 instead of .230 he's hot shit, because his arm is a bazooka, and he's got some pop in his bat. Plus he's a righty, and helps to balance the lineup.

I'd bet Clemons is done in pinstripes - and I'm not saying I like it. He's just getting old, and better to lose him 1-2 years too soon, than pay hi big money and get burned. Remember David Cone's last years? Clemons, El Duque, even Petite - I'll be surprised if they're back. Weaver will start, Moose will probably be kept around, maybe Wells comes back, and I think they are going for that young Cuban defector.

The only thing that bother me about the luxury tax is that the shitty teams that get the tax money have no payroll minimum to spend. So KC, Pittsburgh, and Miami can dump any payroll thay have left, fuck over their fans again, and then sit back and get a nice bonus from George, the Red Sox, and a few more guys who want to win.

booker 10-06-2002 12:23 AM

..still pullin' for the Sillies.. er, Phillies. Maybe next year!

I'm actually a huge Braves fan, but the Cards are just fucking amazing and I'm not sure if the Braves can beat them...my heart says Braves in 4, my brain says Cards in 5 :(

or I could get made to look like a total tool and the Ginats will come back and turn the Braves into bitches again (I remember the 80's though when the Braves were everyone's bitches)

ChrisH 10-06-2002 12:37 AM

Steve,
Clemens has a strange optoion on his contract. Somehow he can walk and still get almoest 8 million on a buy out clause.

As for the Yankees running out of money??? Don't count on that. They just started their own network, and George likes to win!!
