Flowers Are Fucking Expensive

Those damn shops must make a killing this time of year. I just paid $100 for a bouquet which didn't even look up to much.

It better be worth it by tomorrow night

TurboAngel 02-13-2008 10:07 AM

They go up at this time of year.

:(

Fat Panda 02-13-2008 10:15 AM

simple supply and demand my friend

CynthiaB 02-13-2008 10:16 AM

That's why I always ask for chocolate - cheaper and yummier!

Ross 02-13-2008 10:21 AM

My girlfriend loves flowers, but there's only one day of the year she doesn't want them.. thankfully for me its Feb 14th. :)

CaptainHowdy 02-13-2008 10:24 AM

You should get her a Julio Iglesias CD, they're much cheaper...

Fap 02-13-2008 10:25 AM

Avoid 1-800-FLOWERS
They get me every year $160 atleast everytime usually more.
And last time i ordered they missed the girls bday by 3 days

florin 02-13-2008 10:29 AM

it sucks

Redmanthatcould 02-13-2008 10:33 AM

If you lived in Los Angeles, I'd refer you to my family's flower shop, and you wouldn't get ripped off :)

I'm guessing you've never snacked on tulips :winkwink:

MattO 02-13-2008 10:34 AM

Yea they're expensive. My mom owns a flower shop and is barely getting by.
Wholesale prices on premium flowers has gone way up and she's got to compete with grocery stores and Wal Mart selling shitty roses for 19.99 a dozen.

My dad just passed away and I went over the books with my mom and I was surprised as fuck to see how little she's making.

But if anyone wants to order some flowers go to her website and you can order them for anywhere. http://www.beachflorist.net
Expensive but premium

Yeah Asda (our Wal Mart) is selling shitloads of cheap ones. They just look very poor though, so i wouldn't even spend my money on them...

Emil 02-13-2008 10:48 AM

Yes, they're fucking expensive. I hate to buy flowers. It's such a waste of money. I rather buy something more expensive than won't wither.. :P

bobby666 02-13-2008 11:44 AM

for that money i better pay a dinner

AC Content Girl 02-13-2008 12:04 PM

You can get a real rose covered in gold for $60. Howard Stern keeps advertising it...at least that won't wither.

tyler (durden) 02-13-2008 12:41 PM

the shittiest part of all is that i ended up paying nearly as much for the shipping as the flowers

Socks 02-13-2008 12:46 PM

You people and your virtual girlfriends.. Go pickup a chick at the mall, all she'll want is a drink.

Xrated J 02-13-2008 01:19 PM

i think i might open a florist

DjiXas 02-13-2008 01:26 PM

It's good that I am not a girl. I don't drink flowers and/or chocolate.

Barefootsies 02-13-2008 01:28 PM

No shit chief.

:disgust

Snake Doctor 02-13-2008 02:43 PM

yeah they really rape you on valentine's day.

CDSmith 02-13-2008 02:49 PM

1. I've never had much luck whenever I've sent flowers to a woman.

2. Those $100 flowers are going to be dead in a week.

If you have to send her something send her a plant of some sort, something that will last, and include some kind of cutesie stuffed animal with it and a nice card with something thoughtful written by you personally.

Similar price but at least you'll get some lasting "gift cred" out of it. :2 cents:

D 02-13-2008 02:59 PM

My fiancee already told me to not bother with flowers this year, and since we'll be out of town all weekend, I have to agree - they don't make sense for us this go.

Besides, I typically pick her up a bouquet of whatever's in season on my weekly trip to the Farmer's Market.

$5 to $12 a week is a lot easier to stomach.... sometimes I'll get a $10 bunch of a dozen tulips or whatever for $3 if I hit them up at the end of the day.

ChatCash_Rob 02-13-2008 02:59 PM

damn kenya and it's civil war

Odie 02-13-2008 03:04 PM

Valentine's Day is over rated and for the losers who feel guilty about not showing their love and affection on a daily basis.

I'd rather get flowers/presents on ANY day of the year than V-day out of obligation.

baddog 02-13-2008 03:19 PM

I guess living in Scotland limits your options. I got 2 dozen roses, with vase and a box of chocolates for a very reasonable price so I can send them to all my valentines and not be broke as a result.

Exactly, shipping hits you just as hard

Learn to use the Internet. I paid about $12 for delivery only because it was on VD. If I had them delivered today it would be free.

Well, I would presume that you have fewer florists in Scotland than I have here. I could hit a golf ball in any direction and probably hit a florist.

Well we have a few near here, but it's basically all the same shit anyway...

I only send flowers to girls that live a good distance away. I Googled florists in one city and they gave me like 10 results. When I visited each site they all had the same online store, with the exact same selection and the same prices.

I moved on and found a much better option that allowed me to send anywhere in the country.

WiredGuy 02-13-2008 03:55 PM

The trick is to buy them a month ago with a Feb 14th delivery date. They won't raise the prices on you for that (normally).

Sosa 02-13-2008 04:43 PM

a dozen roses, vase, and ballon cost me about $20 more this year.

Spunky 02-13-2008 05:08 PM

It's tradition and only comes once a year
