Google Toolbar hijacking 404 errors
Check out this: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogsp...-features.html
Google is pushing it way too far in my opinion, it's certainly not their decision where to send my 404 traffic. Especially "If all else fails, there's always a chance that similar content already exists elsewhere on the web. The Google web search can help your users to find it - the Toolbar will help you by adding the keywords found in the URL to the search box." |
Use custom 404 pages and you won't have any worries. People who aren't doing that already are fucking up.

Also I like this idea:

read the fine print :
3 site issues detected by Google Toolbar : 404 errors with default error pages ; DNS errors ; Connection failures None of those you can redirect anywhere anyway, so. |
I do not like how they want to redirect DNS errors. They could easily compile a list of domains that aren't registered but getting typein traffic and register them themselves with adsense landing pages and clean up.
