D-Money Presents ROCK THE BALL - coming back for July
It started last year during the XBiz Summer Forum, we had Metal Skool rock our crowd all night.
So I'm going to bring it back for the same show. At least, that's what I'm planning at the moment. I'll need sponsors of course, then I need to get lucky with the right artist for the right price. I was born and raised in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame city of Cleveland, so I know my rock music. Any suggestions? Metal Skool was so awesome, I'd almost like to do them again, but I'll change it up with someone else. Or would you all rather see Metal Skool come back again? Thoughts? |
are real rock bands more expensive to book then rappers?
|
What about April Wine? :)
|
Yeah - April Wine would be very cool (are they doing a reunion tour?). Metal Skool is fun even for the peeps that are not into hard rock though.
Post a list of who you could afford to get and I will tell ya what to do :-) |

For the money that Little Jon received you can pretty much get any old school Rock Band.
I know from owning bars and clubs you can get Foghat, KIX, Cheap Trick etc...for that price. |
For me, I can do a band no problem. We've done George Clinton and P-Funk, Third World, Fishbone, B-Side Players, Digital Undergrounds live band and Too Shorts live band, Long Beach Dub Allstars (Sublime basically at that time), Eek-A-Mouse and Half Pint with Dubcat.
It's a matter of who's available and for what price. Most major rock bands want around $100k each. That's might be too much for our webmaster advertisers of today. I'll post a list of artists in a sec, I'll at least give you all options. |

Cheap Trick wants around $50k to $100k, been trying for years to get them. And no offense to AVN, but I think Everclear sucked as a live party band. So you have to find a party band that will rock the crowd through the whole set. Not an easy task. But I can find a project group, like Tommy Lee with DJ Scribble, or Dave Navarro with DJ AM, or Travis Barker with a DJ like that. I happen to think if we get lucky, I'll get Camp Freddy. We almost did them once before. Do a google search on who they are and you'll be very impressed with the rock gods in this group. |
I volunteer to sponsor the following band as the opening act - Smash Up Derby. Thye play mash-ups of songs everyone has heard, and have a pretty kickass stage show too...
Here they are preforming "Billy Jean" to the melody of "Smells Like Teen Spirit", I think they call it "Smells Like Billy Jean". BTW, this was an obviously amateur video - I have better footage from some shows I shot for them last year that I can capture and compress if you are interested in seeing it. Here are some mp3's of other mash-ups they perform live: Talking Heads vs Franz Ferdinand - Talking Franz Billy Idol vs The Cult - She Sells White Weddings Their version of Run DMC vs Metallica titled "Tricky Sandman" is awesome. Well, check them out and if you're interested in having them appear, I'll talk to them about it... ADG |

The project group sounds like a great idea. |

Few suggestions who might not cost an arm and a leg but can rock the party:
Pepper Eagles of Death Metal Badfish I know Badfish are only in the 15K-20K price range (plus expenses). |

Get Atomic Punks to open for Metal Skool and we will all have a great time. Both Ralphs bands |

True, Metal Skool is nice to have as a back up. But I'd still like to do someone new. I'd even consider making it a Players Ball if the right talent isn't available. The goal is to at least do 1 Rock The Ball per year. Makes sense to do it with the XBiz summer show at the Hard Rock. |
Camp Freddy would rock... I remmeber when you tried to get them in vegas a couple years ago... I'd love to see them in person..
|
I do my research everytime I do these. Here's a list of some of the bands I've researched. Most of the big name ones are pretty expensive, some are $250k plus. I just want to see if any of these you guys like.
For the dollar, I think The Strokes would be a great live show. I've looked into many others, these were just the names I pulled out from when I researched last years Rock The Ball. Saw Lenny Kravitz open for Aerosmith last year. He has a great band and put on a hell of a show. I didn't think he would be in the price range...but if he is that would be a great headliner. And wtf is up with Cheap Trick wanting so much money? I opened up for them in clubs all over the country back in the day. They were getting $7,500, and then "The Flame" came out and re-ignited their career. But hell, that's been 20 years. I can't see anybody paying them big bucks... not that they aren't worth it (they are a great band). But I don't see any big demand for them anymore. No albums, no tours. Seems like they would be: (pardon the pun) Cheap. Damn it.

time to grow my hair long!
NOT :1orglaugh |

How about ZZ Top?? The nice thing about Metal School, is they covered a wide range of songs that everyone enjoyed and they were good at it. More so than just a cover band:thumbsup
|
Atomic Punks is a great choice, DLR era Van Halen
Moving Pictures - Russ (Metal Skool Guitarist) and Scott (Atomic Punks drummer) is a Rush tribute band, haven't seen them live though. Which one's pink - Pink Floyd Cover If you go with metal skool again, maybe perhaps see if they'll play a longer set with a break and skip an opener? Due to their great variety of tunes and how well they do.. just a thought.. |

How in the hell does Cheap Trick get $50,000.
I saw them at the old Shark Club in Vegas when they just jumped on stage and started jamming with some other band. I can't remember the other band, too many youthful indisrections. If you can get Ted Nugent that would be awesome. KIX was one of my favorite bands, feel free to laugh at me. |
Metal Skool was killer. They played tunes from so many bands. The dancing and rocking never stopped that night. I'd be totally happy to see them again.
But it is nice to mix it up. I like the DJ mix idea. |
DJ's are NOT ROCK. no way.
Metal Skool best bet. Rock is pretty easy, of those bands listed, most are not rock. |
God please no Tenacious D
|
stp is getting back together a bunch of reunion concerts.you should see if they want to make your thing their warm up
