I burn about 1,000 gigs a month...how much should I be paying in bandwith?

Just static html, I dont use or need any database or anything dynamic and I dont even need an email (I use my own). And it's shared hosting. Only thing is that I use up a few gigs (probably under 5 gigs) for storing images.

How much should I be paying in bandwith for using up around 1000 gigs a month?

brocklanders 10-05-2002 12:27 PM

I pay about $350 for 2100 GB's/month.

m0rph3us 10-05-2002 12:32 PM

$350 for quality non cogent bandwidth.

I have seen lots of cogent-only hosts offering pricing similar to this. Try the web boards at webhostingtalk.com

I agree about cogent quality - but they're being used by hosts with .33/gb type pricing

onlyreal 10-05-2002 01:02 PM

Say me why?

I am with cogent approximetaly for 1 year and no prob no down sometimes it may get slow but you cant feel difference

Can you say me why you donot want cogent?
any good reason

yipes also have that cheap pricing

i think cogent made very big revolution in bandwith provider area.

We sell managed hosting on non-Cogent same price as the Cogent guys...we sell Cogent to if that is a preference.

So I wouldnt agree :)

m0rph3us 10-05-2002 01:05 PM

not if you buy volume. if you buy volume you can get 33 cents from good bandwidth providers.

The quality of cogent traffic as been getting better. It is just inconsistent. Sometimes routes across the street in west coast will be sent to new york and back.

With the addition of the PSI network they have gotten better.

Hmm try williams, internap, level3. those all have decent pricing.

top quality would be c&w (exodus) but they are bling bling.

Slick 10-05-2002 02:40 PM

Fuck, I'm paying $895 for 1500 gigs of bandwith, it's Verio, so it's good bandwidth. Is there anyone else out there that offers that or better MANAGED hosting for a better price than that ? I have dual 36-gig raided hard drives to, so I'd need that :)

dikkechill 10-05-2002 02:57 PM

Slick,
I can get you in touch with someone who will probably have a better deal. Send me a mail and i will give his contact info

I'm too tired to do the math.
I'm paying 1K/month for a server and 10mbps of tier 1 bandwidth. (That's what, about 3200 gigs if I stay peaked at 10 megs all month?)

It was by far the best deal around when I got it, but I haven't looked around in quite awhile.
Did prices drop when I wasn't looking?

For 10 Mb/s and a decent server, $650-750 is kind of the going rate right now, depending on what server you want.

Drop us a line if you would like more info.

Rediculous statements like this make me sick - Stop playing high school trendy games try joining reality and learn the truth.

They are a 1 tier provider there a lot worse.

they have just as good uptimes as any of there competition.

The real difference is slightly slower pings because they stay on there own network.

95% of the time you would never notice the differance. In fact I ran yipes with a membership site with 1500 + members on a 5 meg line and switched them to cogent because of a move. Their customers emailed them to say how much faster the videos were running with the same size pipe. Don't be a follower get the facts!

What really matters is to make sure you get good specs P4 1.8 + processor 1 gig of ram if you want to stream video.

The next big factor is the size of the pipe your on if someone's branching a 5 gig line you will defiantly have slow times. if you host is good they will tell what you need and you can decide from there.

I spoke with level three and qwest yesterday to get a breakdown of where there going price wise, promotions, ect. Even they admitted that Cogent is a better value and they will be trying to compete with there prices.

Not to mention several cooperate web hosting companies are using them for 100,000's of accounts for years and know the same things about reality.

I wish people would quit playing high school trends and get the facts for once.

Just my two cents :2 cents:

Good Luck

Brad Mitchell 10-06-2002 06:38 AM

Hey Chaze,

Didn't know know that Yipes and Cogent used the same network and technology? Yipes was nothing like the other Tier 1 providers.
