Penthouse To Go Public !(and plans to be 4 times bigger than Playboy)

I just read the article on avn.

Bell, who said he acquired one of the largest adult magazines "by accident," also discussed his industry past and future plans. His most recent big splash in the industry was his $500 million purchase of Various, the parent company of AdultFriendFinder. He said Penthouse will use the purchase to leverage itself as one of the largest adult companies to ever go public. The company plans to take the brand public in the second quarter of 2008.

"I expect us to be four times the size of Playboy by the time we go public," Bell said.

not bad for a company many thought had no money :)

Chest Rockwell 02-09-2008 12:21 AM

CyberHustler 02-09-2008 12:21 AM

Hmmm.....

tony286 02-09-2008 12:26 AM

looks like hubris at its finest.

mikesouth 02-09-2008 12:45 AM

I can say in 4 years that mikesouth.com will be bigger than google

That dont make it so

Christina Muller 02-09-2008 01:00 AM

Mike when they start by taking over Various for 500 mil it gives the comment more substance.

Now if you put in a bid for yahoo and buy it then tell me you intend to make mikesouth.com huge I will go along with your story :)

Hey brother how are you doing these days....I hope all is well with you:thumbsup

sicone 02-09-2008 01:41 AM

why stop at 4 times.. why not go for 10 times.

V_RocKs 02-09-2008 02:22 AM

Why be bigger than Playboy? Why not also be better?

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 02-09-2008 02:32 AM

Good luck I say!

Christina Muller 02-10-2008 12:03 AM

sicone-why stop at 4 times.. why not go for 10 times.

I think they are looking at the statement this way.

Playboy is a huge global brand and to aim for 4 times bigger is to say we will be bigger in revenues I guess as Playboy must rank as the ultimate brand with cola cola, pepsi, mcdonalds etc.

NinjaSteve 02-10-2008 04:25 AM

I think people think of playboy more than they think of any other xxx company/magazine. They had their own show, the girls next door, and I think that helped with the name branding.

Michaelious 02-10-2008 05:29 AM

Should create even more competition between the big guns

GTS Mark 02-10-2008 05:35 AM

Penthouse will be huge and ARE huge, there are strip clubs opening up around the country leveraging the penthouse name. They are really going the brand route and appear to be licensing their name to alot of different things (ala Playboy).

They will end up going public trust me... I'll be one of the first people lining up to buy stock when it does. They have a good team put together

Assuming they go public, I doubt anyone with stock there is going to care much. And the purchase was obviously with an IPO in mind so it all makes sense, even if overpriced.

The Penthouse club here in Vegas sucks. They basically just took over another bad club (Sin) and slapped the Penthouse name on it.

Doesnt even compare to other clubs in Vegas like Spearment Rhino, Sapphires, Club Paradise etc.

Playboy club on the other hand is beautiful. Definitely a lot of work went into the place.

Heh I dunno, I found the Penthouse club in Vegas to not only be a great club, but to have some killer top-notch girls ;) I had a great time there, way moreso than any other club I've been to there yet.

Darrell 02-10-2008 01:29 PM

Aren't Penthouse already public trading as Penthouse International Inc. PHSL ?

The girls were good. I was more talking about the environment. They basically just took a run down crappy strip club and put the Penthouse name up outside and threw in some Penthouse matchbooks.

On the flip side Playboy went all out on their club at the Palms. Of course Playboy Club isnt a strip club but quality wise its night and day compared to the Penthouse Club.

AmeliaG 02-10-2008 01:53 PM

I wish a company could just say they were doing some awesome stuff and hoped to go public with massive success. Why do they need to put it in competitive terms? Just looks like insecurity to me, when people do that.

Ummm...were we at the same club? It totally had the Penthouse feel as far as I was concerned.. but maybe I was just distracted by all the hot women in my lap. :P

They only overpaid if it was all cash.

Something tells me it wasn't all cash.

I read cash and securities. So that can go many ways.

Bojangles 02-10-2008 04:15 PM

That's a very bold statement.

Shhh, don't say nothing. You are in the Church of Pornographers.

The industry has more unwritten rules and secrets than a room full of Church goers.

Have to be cash/stock and if its to go public they didnt overpay. AFF is a great fit

mpahlca 02-10-2008 05:20 PM

hmm well when they took penthouse and Ibill to an IPO last time he made a killing and his investors did not, so enjoy all those who buy shares :D

Christina Muller 02-10-2008 11:10 PM

I personally wouldnt buy shares if it went public,I think a lot of these deals ususally end up not making much for the smaller investor .

Spunky 02-10-2008 11:14 PM
