Anyone like Quincy M.E.?

They're showing reruns daily at 3:30am here. First time I've seen them, they are classic. :1orglaugh

Someone should invent a drinking game (if they haven't already)

- One shot each time he yells at someone
- One shot when the boss tries to pull him in because some test is going to cost too much
- Bonus shot when the boss grudgingly agrees and then you see a fleeting glimpse of admiration as Quincy storms off
- Two shots when he cuddles, I mean leans over, another man

I used to watch it every day, loved that show. Its on everyday here around 1:30 I think.... I have a small tv in my office but its hard to watch, gonna buy a new one anyway so I can work more and have the soccer on, instead of having to go downstairs to watch it.

:1orglaugh This is a comment from the IMDB page:

"This is the king of formula shows. Every single episode goes down the same way:

Quincy has just gotten off of a particularly grueling case.

The boss brings in a new body that Quincy "just has to look at".

Sam, his ever faithful assistant, is just about to leave for the night before Quincy calls him back. "I need you to stay and figure this one out."

They show the 'late-night working montage', which always consists of Sam running spectral analysis tests while Quincy pokes at the body.

The montage ends, and Sam says "I don't like the looks of this Quince".

Quincy then insults Sam about the quality of his coffee.

Quincy puts on his detective hat, and interviews witnesses.

Quincy will come against opposition to him solving the case, and he will yell at that person. In fact, he will have been yelling for most of the episode, but now the yelling is of a righteous nature.

Quincy will confront his main adversary and scream, "PEOPLE'S LIVES ARE AT STAKE HERE!!"

Quincy's boss, who was against all meddling from the start, eventually comes around.

Quincy solves the case, then explains everything over breakfast/lunch/dinner with his pals.

Someone at the table tells a throw-away joke, usually at Quincy's expense, leaving everyone in stitches.

Roll credits.

I'm actually old enough to remember watching this when it was on primetime TV. I actually liked it at the time.

Sarah_Jayne 02-08-2008 02:32 AM

I never really liked it but they show it on the BBC often in the afternoons. It is weird that things that come over from the States in that time slot. They also show that murder thing with Dick Van Dyke and Scot Baio.

Haha, Diagnosis Murder shows at 2:30-3:30am here, right before Quincy. :thumbsup

Doesn't he have voice box thing from throat cancer?

I've never even heard of this show before. Is it some kind of Murder She Wrote spinoff? Everyone knows old folks get the early bird special at IHOP and take naps, they don't solve crimes.

Holly 02-08-2008 09:07 AM

Oh shit. My granddad used to watch that show back in the day.

rowan 02-08-2008 10:48 AM

I got some things to add to the drinking game

- One shot every time he complains about the coffee
- One shot every time his assistant says "I don't like the look of this" or something similar
- One shot every time an attractive young lady half his age seems to be drawn to him, and him only, out of a group of fiftysomething people at his table

I used to like it back in the day, but I'd be curious to watch it now and see what I think. Just like it'll be interesting to see what people think of Seineld in 30 years.

L-Pink 02-08-2008 10:53 AM

I think that was one of the first shows that left the homicide division as well as the entire police department out of homicide cases ..... hahaha

D 02-08-2008 10:54 AM

Great show. Used to watch it all the time as a kid.

Dig on "House" a lot more, though. :-)

NosMo 02-08-2008 11:15 AM

Looking back now I see this as the first CSI much like rescue 51 was the first ER. I can remember watching both as a kid, so maybe this is why I am a CSI / House junkie

haha... I used to watch Quincy. Back then is was quite good.

rowan 02-18-2008 10:07 AM

I'm watching Quincy now, he visits a doctor and implies that one of his patients is the instigator of incest, the doctor gets offended and opens his door for him to leave, so Quincy SLAMS it shut again and starts yelling at him. :1orglaugh

Seriously though, this show tackles some pretty taboo subjects. Beyond the drinking game it's pretty amazing to think this sort of thing was coming out on TV 30 years ago.
