I neet cat help - animal is driving me crazy
My cat is really nice but she has one habit which seriously drives me to the point that i want to cook it and eat it.
She hardly eats anything but some basic dry food and 1 or 2 different kinds of the expensive stuff. You know those small packs with meat/fish in it. That stuff you don't give every day...i give it like once every 2 or 3 days. For some reason since a few months she goes nuts for the stuff. She's begging for it all day long. And thats where the problem is. I can not move, get out my chair, walk to the tv or do anything without that cat running around like an idiot, making fucked up noises, walking between your legs hoping she will get that food. All fucking day long. All night long. Its seriously crazy. She can be sleeping, as soon i get up and walk towards the kitchen she wakes up and goes nuts begging for food. The expensive food that is. The dry food is always there, she can eat as much as she wants from it. So is there any way i can stop this because i seriously can't handle it anymore. |
Have you kicked it yet? :eek7

It's even this bad that after i give it to her and she eats half (tiny cat, doesnt eat too much) 10 mins later if i walk around she still goes nuts while there is plenty of it left.
|
Did you drop something of Erwin in this food? :1orglaugh
|
Put black pepper in the expensive food after a while she will associate it with it and lose the craving and if that wont work, click my sig.
|
My cat went from 13 pounds when I got her to 17 pounds 5 years later, so I'm not sure if I should be giving my advice, but here goes - just give in to her. It's not that expensive. I give my cat 1 1/2 cans of Fancy Feast every day on top of her dry food always being out. She rarely begs.
|
It could screw up the cats digestive system if you feed it different types of food.
Also dry cat food is a death sentence for cats... most of the time. It's full of carbs and pretty much the worst thing you can feed em. For a cheap wet alternative I'd suggest Fancy Feast (or generic) and only the flaked kind. Full of protien. Give the kitty 1/2 a can every 12 hours.. and perhaps some snuggles. :) |
Is she fixed?

It's easy to solve - stop giving the cat anything but the cheap dry stuff.
Cats are dumb as a post but you've conditioned it to the point that it believes it will receive "the good stuff" if it follows you around and cries for it. By not giving it the good stuff, you'll recondition it so that it expects the same cheap dry stuff no matter if it follows you and cries - and being a lazy ass that would prefer to sleep than follow you around, it won't be at your feet too long asking where's the beef! |
Well, there are 2 reasons i don't give that stuff everyday.
The main reason is i'm afraid it's bad for her? She will become the Sleazydream of cats? It's not a money issue or anything... And other problem: It makes her breath smell horrible. Shes usually pretty close to me and i can smell it from 2 meters away and it almost knocks me out. So anyway, most of you would suggest just giving it every day? |
I have a good solution for this.
Make sure her bowl is full of that dry crap. Then when she bugs you wanting real food, you empty her bowl completely and only fill it with dry stuff later when you know she's actually hungry. Do this for a few days and she'll stop going nuts at you. |
dont give her the canned food....
canned food - tasty dry food - cheap and not that tasty what do u think she prefers? give only dry food...keep the canned food for emergencies like when she is sick and doesn't have an appetite or after surgery etc etc. |
feed her until she gets real fat then she wont be able to catch you :thumbsup
|
Course, there is an over population of homeless cats and...
So, boot that fucker out the door and go get one that's happy just to get 3 squares/day! <hides from Persian Kitty> |
same here.. but mine eat everything..all the time..
|
boot the cat, get a dog.....

Don't feed them those pouch wet foods, I did to my cat, exact same story.
She was like 9 years old, died the next year, right before the chinese cat food poison scare. I am now certain the food was tainted with bad shit, her kidneys failed and she died. It took a few months, 6+, but she had to go outside more to pee. This was a symptom I didn't recognize, I thought she was just getting old. I do not have a cat anymore, but if I did I would be terrified at what to feed them. The shitty crap they put in their food, in the wheat gluten or something, that gravy shit.. the toxins build up in their kidneys. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but I swear same exact shit. The cat went crazy for this food. I am certain it killed her slowly. I fed her dry food her entire life, no issues. I spoiled her with that crap in her old age and I am certain it killed her. And no, I wasn't going to go through scientific tests and sueing people. Just trust me, it killed her faster than she would have died eating dry food. Its like cat crack. I don't have a cat or I would research what to feed it. I just know those pouch things are bad. |
I thought your cat was a boy? Is this the same black and white one?

|
If she's begging for food all day long you're not feeding her enough.

You could always search around for the best pet foods. After my cats UTI..... he is spoiled. I feed him as much protein as possible. Be it canned (people) chicken, canned (people) tuna, tilapia, or fancy feast (flaked kind only--no gravy). There are tons of pet food recipes online but that's a bit too involved for me... It's pretty simple. Feed the cat as close to its natural diet as possible and it'll be healthy. Dry food *is* cheap but eventually could lead to obesity, UTI, diabetes.. in the long run that will lead to expensive vet bills. |
Just leave the dry cat food there and fresh water and don't give the cat anymore premium food....Dry cat food and fresh water is all a cat needs to live a healthy lifestyle....
Our cat is spoiled also so he eats table scraps along with canned tuna and wet cat food...but that's only because there are kids around to indulge him...When the cat just lived with me, he got dry cat food and scraps and he did just fine. |

Hard food is very good for your cat's teeth, and health. No! The stuff does not make them obese. (And, not all hard food is cheap!)
Over eating, and ingesting high (crude) fat foods do! I suggest a combination of both, once and a while. Otherwise, I'd only give her/him hard food. Once a day, I'd add a half of a teaspoon of soft to some hard food, and mix them together. Let it stand for 5-minutes, or longer, so the hard stuff absorbs the juices and flavour. This will also help teach her/him some control. Also, try switching your hard food. I highly recommend Whiskas hard food. I have yet to see a cat refuse it's low (crude) fat formula. Since your kitty is not over-weight, try the Lamb flavour. I recommended this to all my friends (with cats) and the thanked me for it. Hope it helps. P.S. A lot of the time cat's whine when they want attention. No offense, but do you actually spend a fair amount of time with your kitty? Sitting down for an hour plus, with her/him on your lap, or playing with a string, or combing him more her? Often, cat's (and dog's) get lonely for attention, and when they want it (attention) they think of the first place where they see you (at the diner plate). |
This thread it worthless without pics.

I got 2 felines and here's what's on the menu for them.
Morning they get 1/4 cup of dry food. Night 1/4 cup of dry food mix with 1/4 can food of same blend. I buy my food directly at the vet and they been eating same thing since I got them. I just went from kitten to adult using same brand. Also they have fresh water ALL the time. This as been working great for me for over a year. |
go to the deli and get shaved turkey and chicken breast. give them a little each day.
|
I've never heard anything about dry food being a death sentence for cats.
I'd cut out the canned food all together. After a week or so of not having it, she should be back to normal. |

Hi Dirty,
It's normal for your cat to crave the good stuff. Always leave the dry for him to nibble at all day, and feed him the good stuff once a day. If you're not sure what's healthy for him, ask your Vet. If your cat is older, younger, fatter, whatever, your Vet will recommend special food for him. Most dry cat foot contains alot of ash which is bad for cats, especially for its kidneys. Cats that each alot of dry food with high ash content will have its kidneys slowly deteriorate. It's tragic. I'd say, just feed your cat the good stuff. He's YOUR cat after all - give him the best. |
I'm a sucker, I just gave in and switched to the shit the cat wanted. I figure I can eat whatever I want, why can't they?
My dog did the same thing. He actually went on hunger strike. He WOULD NOT eat dry food after I let him test out the wet stuff. He didn't eat for 3 days until I finally had to buy wet. I mix 1 can of wet and a cup of dry food and he is good. |

get some catnip, they are fond of that too, get all feisty and flip out, then pass out...
its a wonderful weed... |
Thanks for the tips and stuff. Still reading everything. What worries me though is that everybody says something else. 1 person says dry food will kill your cat the next says not giving dry food will kill your cat etc.
