Whatever happened to Carol Brady''s 1st husband?

Those kids NEVER got to see their Daddy.

she was a widow and Mr Brady was a widower and in his private life a big flaming homo - divorce was a taboo back in those days on TV.

now that's a good trivia question - who was the first divorced sitcom character in TV history?

Just a guess, Oscar Madison?

Amazing how none of the kids ever talk about their dead parents.

that's what i was thinking - both Oscar and Felix on the Odd Couple were divorced/seperated.

Was the first divorced character Mary Tyler Moore? Pulling that from somewhere in my head where useless trivia is stored.

no she was never married - her character was a breakthrough in the womens lib movement - a single woman in her 30's who was attractive with a career and no husband

I remember why it was in my head now. She was suppose to be divorced but the network guys were afraid the audience would think she had divorced Dick Van Dyke so they just changed it to she had left her finance.

The other one that flashes in my head is Marlo Thomas in 'That Girl' but not sure.

Mutt 02-07-2008 06:55 AM

Marlo Thomas' character was a young 20 something single girl living in Manhattan - not divorced.

Mutt 02-07-2008 06:57 AM

Played by Bonnie Franklin, Romano was not TV's first divorced woman or mother (Diana Rigg in Diana proceeded her as did Vivian Vance on The Lucy Show), but she was probably--to that time--the most realistic.

lol..give up..shows you how much I watched girlie shows like that when I was a kid.
