Turkish hackers take down Redtube.com

Hackers yesterday shut down one of the most popular porn sites on the internet.

Redtube.com is in the top 100 most visited websites, and was temporarily shut down by a 'Turkish cyber-terrorist' group calling itself 'Hacked Netdevilz'.

"No porn!" the site read. "We're not the first but we're the best."

The site, which attracted four million visitors last month, is now back up and running on a different server, but experts are poring over the site's logs to find the vulnerability that allowed the security features to be bypassed.

Redtube posts submitted videos, in the same way as YouTube, and attempts are now underway to discover whether the security hole is common to other web 2.0 sites.

yeah, I was sending them all my china traffic. hopped they liked it :) I actually thought at one point that it was worth something? I realized it wasn't at one point. Thats when I decided they should have it.

0 bandwidth for about two days and thousands of sources online posting about and linking to their site - sounds like a successful hack to me.

but I realized you can't filter your traffic effectively and still have google be your friend ...

I stick with static coding + JS, and only use "lean" PHP - and only where really needed.
Much less to worry about :)

That's not true. If it were then every big site would be hacked since they
all use scripts.

Scripts are hacked because of coding "oversights".
Once the oversight is caught it is fixed.

Custom scripts are harder, bigger sites have one off custom scripts..

The scripts that seem to get exploited easy are ones that are available to the public.
Ones that either cost a small fee or those that are freeware, scripts such as wordpress, smf, mybb.
Just search google.

What did you tell everyone? Do you think all tube sites are susceptible to being hacked? Or just tube sites that use clones or cheap copies of other sites? Did redtube use one of these cheap copies? not sure where you going with this ?

They got access to the registrar and changed the DNS information.
It wasn't a hole in '2.0'.

If I remember correctly he claimed that there is an exploit in ffmpeg library which most of the tube sites use... so ANY site that lets users upload clips and uses ffmpeg library could be vulnerable... assuming of course his claim that there is a security hole in ffmpeg is actually accurate...

It was defaced for like an hour, get over it. They just went down for an hour then continued business as usual - makin' lots of money :)
