Cheap but not dirty cheap, I think there are plenty of hosting companies offering prices in this range, right?

Davy 02-06-2008 02:42 PM

That's a really great deal!

janosik 02-06-2008 02:43 PM

I already host with alphared and they are great solution for gallery submiters too ;)

Ross 02-06-2008 03:10 PM

Thats insane. I was with Alphared 18 months ago and I was paying $10 per mbit. I thought that was awesome. Does James still own Alphared?

Don't be an idiot, obviously you won't get a 5mbit server for $35..... jeez...

shermo 02-06-2008 03:39 PM

Wow.. Those are pretty amazing prices. If I were looking for a new host which I'm not, I'd have to drop them a line :)

Kard63 02-06-2008 04:06 PM

sounds cheap. whats the catch?

Drake 02-06-2008 04:23 PM

"Numerous Alexa TOP 100 visited web sites trust all or the major portion of their business with Alpha Red."

Sounds good. What are some of the sites they host?

tranza 02-06-2008 04:33 PM

Damn, I'm paying almost the same for 30Mbps!!

I'll get a quote with them for sure.

:)

dissipate 02-06-2008 05:17 PM

James is a great guy, he was always very good to me when I hosted there. I might return one day with prices like that

GAMEFINEST 02-07-2008 11:29 AM

Sounds like a great deal for the tubers..

SpeakEasy 02-07-2008 11:50 AM

Companies that sell for cost or below cost do not last very long as history has shown. When a company uses these tactics it is usually because they have over committed themselves to their carriers and are simply trying to cut their losses before they are forced into bankruptcy. There are certain fixed costs in hosting such as the BW itself, data center space, power, routers and other equipment, servers, support, ect....the list is endless, so when giving it away for such cheap prices, ther is a catch plain and simple. It is simply just not good, prudent business.:2 cents::2 cents:

We have the cheapest confirmed transit costs (IN THE WORLD) from every provider we purchase from. We've achieved this by using our 140+Gbps of usage to negotiate lower rates. Costs are further reduced by peering traffic directly with destination networks via our national backbone.

We focus on HIGH bandwidth hosting and the majority of our profit comes from bandwidth sales. Our usage increases by 15 Gbps per month, since the majority of the servers we sell are not capped (BURSTABLE VS. UNMETERED). We have single dedicated servers on our network that can burst to 3200 Mbps.

We host MANY multi-Gbps tube clusters. This $675 server offer is what we consider a 'seed' server. It gets you on our network, and then we watch your usage grow.

DaveMac 02-24-2008 07:16 PM

Nice prices. I'm currently looking for a smaller server solution. I'll be checking these guys out.

pocketkangaroo 02-24-2008 08:53 PM

Has management/ownership changed with you guys? I remember some horrible stories going around the hosting community a few years ago about AlphaRed/OrangeFiber/etc. Had to do with not only business practices but a sales rep.

Makingcoin 02-24-2008 11:23 PM

Always had great success with my boxes at Alpha Red. :)

jpoker 02-24-2008 11:50 PM

those are great prices

MoreMagic 02-25-2008 01:10 AM

Congent traffic I supose?

wizzart 02-25-2008 02:39 AM

HostGator have best offers for BW

Brujah 02-25-2008 03:26 AM

Alphared is kind of slow.

68 of our 140+ Gbps of actual outgoing USAGE, goes out Cogent. The remaining usage is routed Level3, other transit providers, and peered with destination networks via our private backbone.

pocketkangaroo 10-10-2008 04:43 PM

Good to know who the ones that work with the crooks are.

Snake Doctor 10-10-2008 05:00 PM

The funniest thing about this thread is that now $7/mbit is "overpriced"

LOL! Quiet about what? They were a cheap host and were great for exactly for what I recommended them for. I don't think anyone could complain about their pricing and value...

I think we were all caught off guard with the accusations from MS.
