Calling all affiliate reps - please note, you r no longer allowed an opinion.

Its true - I have just been told that I shouldnt share my opinions on GFY.

I should kiss ass and agree with everything that is said on here in case I piss people off.

Seriously, I hate hypocrisy and if I changed my veiws because I now have a job I would hate myself.

I am more consious about the things I post, of course, but I am still Damian.

I will never appoligise for that.

JamesK 02-06-2008 06:10 AM

You are allowed to have an opinion on something, but you should just not talk about it on a business forum to avoid offending anyone.

Guess that's too hard for you to understand :upsidedow

Oracle Porn 02-06-2008 06:14 AM

its true.

I'll disagree with you here.
I'd say that Damian is a sort of different kind of rep.

There are the reps who enter the industry with no experience and are introduced as Maria_some_useless_program and they are usually blonde, 23 year old and last 9 months.

And then there are the reps who already make a living in this industry on their own and who made a name for themselves on this forum and were then hired as an asset by a company. I'd say they are allowed to express their opinions more freely, although I agree that they should try to behave professionally as well and not to offend someone. But I don't think expressing their opinion equals offending anyone, unless they call everyeone an idiot who disagrees with them.

GFY is and always has been a place to share ideas and opinions.

That didnt change when I got a job. My opinions didnt change.

I would be ashamed of myself if I did what you are suggesting.

So you're saying you'd rather vent and possibly offend your affiliates by sharing your opinion on a business forum than just be quiet and talk about something else?

If somebody such as Damian (or even myself, I guess) who have been around on the boards for ages took a job and suddenly changed their opinions on things then that would make me wonder how 'real' they were. It isn't like he did anything other than express a political opinion. I get that in other industries that would be odd but this isn't any other industry.

There have been reps that did nothing but throw insults at people in nearly every thread. All Damian did was dare to comment on a current event.

sltr 02-06-2008 06:33 AM

You just proved my point.

GFY is about debate and differing points of view, it always has been.

I make a point of being a part of the GFY community and not just some affiliate rep that comes here to just spam my sites.

I hope that my affiliates see that is the case and are mature enough to realise that I wont agree with everything they say.

I's not that I feel offended but please pick a name that is a little more blonde next time... hehe :upsidedow

Just want to make a note in this thread, which is great btw Damian.

Last Vegas show, I met some people from over the years I had dissenting views with. Some people take it seriously, and while it's good to have your own views on things, the thing to remember is you are on a public stage, where everyone can take your words and paint your character with them.

You seem to go out of your way to do it. There's a difference.

You don't need to change your opinions man. You should just not express them on polemic topics. GFY should be considered your work place.

And do you really want to compare yourself to reps that insult people? Come on..

:2 cents:

All you need is in Tranza's post.

StuartD 02-06-2008 07:54 AM

I've been posting on GFY for a long time, and now I've worked for ATK for a year, not even as a rep.... but the moment anyone has any kind of problem with me, it's all about ATK.

It's about being immature. Their inner child comes out and immediately thinks "how can I hurt him the most... I know, I'll bring the company into it so that he gets in trouble somehow!"

It's beyond pathetic.

JayDeeZee 02-06-2008 08:18 AM

I know how you feel Damian. I'm generally a very outspoke and opinionated person. I have to learn to tone it down and speak professionally on the boards when representing my program.

However, there's also the option of having an alternative nick.

Maybe I am getting old - I just dont see why anyone would have a problem with me because I dont always agree with what they say.

I know how BadDog feels now - lol - :1orglaugh

That wasn't what I meant at all. I meant that in the scheme of things Damian making a statement on a political issue isn't really as divisive as some other reps have been.

Personally, I don't really start political threads because I would probably end up just wanting to bitch slap people by the end of the thread. That is just out of years of watch the same debates having time and time again.

I have posted numerous times about treating boards as a work environment and have been laughed at when I have done so. I simply don't think that his thread was any less worthy than a zillionth 'would you hit it' thread.

Sure, it wasn't a biz topic but then neither are the vast majority on the front page. When I post my tutorials they get a handful of responses (all very welcome) and a good number of views but if somebody posts a 'stir it up' thread people are all over it. Yet, those same people will complain about a lack of biz threads.

Paper_Amar 02-06-2008 08:45 AM

Be who you are?

scottybuzz 02-06-2008 08:51 AM

maybe you represent the company.

but one thing i would expect is if were to hit you up for help, I would expect it promptly!!

I have it from other reps who thought it would be more enjoyable to post on boards rather than help their affiliates.

fags,

tony286 02-06-2008 08:56 AM

Only post in threads about the weather and would you hit it and you will be safe. lol

Martin 02-06-2008 08:56 AM

People shouldn't let "opinions expressed" posted on a message board influnce their business. Cash Rules.

If it gets personal, that's a different matter.

fags,

If Damian and I spent as much time talking to people in real life as we do with affiliates on ICQ we both might get more action. We know the boards are what you do when you aren't helping affiliates or doing other work rather than the main work.

damian , tranza has some good points.
:2 cents:

I missed all the drama , so i dont even know what this thread is about but in general "i feel" affiliate reps are representing 2 people , themselves and their company so its important if they are going to polarize something to make sure they are speaking for themselves and the company , if not they should make clear who they are speaking for. When you have your company name on your gfynick you are speaking for yourself and the company.

for example , if you hated christians and you stated "i hate christians", its hard not to think your company must also hate christians or they would tell you to remove the company name when making such posts.

moral of the story is yes i think most people expect reps to live up to a different set of standards than your average poster. Is it always fair ? prob not. Is it life ? yes

I would have hoped that people would be able to see that my opinions are just that - mine alone.

What I siad wasnt even that outragious.

Oh well - tomorrow is another day.

No.... I apoligised to people if I caused any offence.

I made it clear that my opinion hadnt changed.

seeric 02-06-2008 11:12 AM

i don't have an affiliate rep.

i don't trust anyone to damage the companies name more than i can do it.

i also don't care if someone doesn't want to hear my opinion.

my opinion doesn't affect my conversions.

if major adult programs can own tubesites that fuck over the rest of the people with programs and content out there, and people still send them traffic, well, then people aren't going to stop sending traffic because of an opinion by someone from a program.

webmasters want to make money. if you program makes them money, they will send traffic. if you pay attention to the people that cry about affiliate reps around here, 99% of them have little to no traffic and are disgruntled at their lack of being able to make sales.

period.
