I have a balance with a company and made a payment on the 24th which was scheduled and then they randomly billed me again on the 1st without my knowledge. Is this is a standard billing practice, I always thought you were supposed to get consent before you charged a credit card.

I don't ever think it's ok to be billed without your consent.
But then, it's also possible that you gave your consent without realizing it.
Call the number listed next to the charge on your statement and figure out what's up.
