Personally I liked it better when I saw it 15 years ago as "Manhunter"
Not one single person on this planet creeps me out more than Tom Noonan Tom Noonan Pic another pic |

he also turned in a great performance in one of my guilty pleasure movies "Monster Squad" and was about the only good thing in "Robocop 2" He is amongst the great b-movie elite actors along with Bruce Campbell, Brad Dourif, Bill Paxton (been in some A-list movies, but was always great in his b-flick performances), Lance Henriksen, Jeffery Combs, Tom Towles, David Gale (RIP), Robert Englund, Doug Bradley and Dick Miller... |

How many of you saw the pledge and when you saw Tom Noonan you yelled out (within the first few frames of his appearance) "IT'S HIM!!! He's the KILLER!!!"
Oh? Am I the only one? I recently saw The Pledge on DVD and had to pause on the scene where (ina dream) Tom Noonan has a little girl all wrecked up on a church alter with blood all over himself. You'd have to see it for that to make sense, but it was quite possibly one of the most disturbing 1second clip in an american film I have ever seen. ... (edit) Hey, whaddya know? http://www.chud.com/chudvd/reviews/images/pledge7.jpg You'd have to have seen the movie to know why he was happy, and in a church... with a blade, and why there is blood on him. sshheeeessshhhhh, creepy. |
Also there is just something about our government keeping prisioners in a dungeon that just kinda ruins it for me. In Manhunter he was kept in a perfectly lit cell in a white walled prison.
Not in a stone, dingy, damp looking dungeon... in the last cell so we can see all the other crazies on the way to his cell. Also? Why is Hannibal always so clean? If you lived in a dungeon wouldn't you be a just a tad dirty? |
I really liked this movie too.
I even read the book first and can still say that. Even though red dragon was really great, I'm kind of pissed at a little bit of it. (no real spoilers here) do you really see Hannibal Lector jumping at people to scare them? And those shady looks in the beginning of the movie? Doesn't fit his character at all, and it's cheesy as hell. I mean, I understand why the shady looks were there, as they have to make sure the idiots watching the movie understand what's going on, but I think the intro scene very much explains what happened very plainly. Having him jump at Grahm later in the movie was just dumb... Cheap shock. The 'Hannibal' movie was full of that kinda BS as I recall. Red dragon only had a tiny bit of it, not enough to taint the movie at all though. Hope Thomas Harris makes another book again. His serial killers are the best. |
Thomas Harris can't really make another Hannibal book. In the last one, "Hannibal" Hannibal and Agent Starling became lovers and eat the FBI dude together. That is how it ended. No hand getting cut off, no airplane ride.
The movie ending was complete Hollywood. I don't foresee another book in the series that works into what Hollywood did. Flow |
