See sig.

Compdoctor 02-04-2008 05:24 PM

well so far no answer. If you own a tube site, please give me an about answer of how much bandwidth you use, so I can order what is needed

Zorgman 02-04-2008 05:32 PM

I own a tube site. My answer was 42...but it's probably closer to what Zorgman said. :winkwink:

Compdoctor 02-04-2008 08:58 PM

I gather the 42 is in gigs?

WarChild 02-04-2008 09:00 PM

A tube site with an Alexa rating of around 1000 uses ~4000mbits/second.

That's a very rough number based on a small sample.

That particular site has a total overhead of about 35%.

That is all hosting and small traffic buys here and there.

You still wouldn't want a bandwidth bill that big knowing your profit portion was twice as large as that bandwidth payment? :helpme

Vick! 02-04-2008 09:55 PM

one PetaByte a day..

:pimp

k0nr4d 02-04-2008 10:44 PM

One of the ones running my script is doing 3000mbits.

Fat Panda 02-04-2008 10:52 PM

too much!

Fap 02-04-2008 11:00 PM

You've seen this data first-hand? The limited info I've been able to scrape up shows margins are very slim (youporn.com ranked 35 on Alexa) if not at all (such as when youtube was losing money prior to Google purchase). But I suppose not all tube sites are created equal either.

Well, like anything else, it's a bit of an art. I have seen the data first hand, and for obvious reasons I'm not going to go in to too much depth on the subject. Let's just say not all traffic is created the same. The successful tube sites don't accept all traffic from all countries, don't offer massive 70mb+ files and don't care about their alexa ranking.

It's like anything else really.

dougeetx 02-05-2008 12:39 AM

On one of the old tube sites I used to own, I could burn through about 4 or 5 TB in a month. You need to make sure that you're load balancing between servers. I'm just curious how FightClubTube.com is going to do. I'm starting it out on a shared host and will move it when it gets bigger to a dedicated.

Makingcoin 02-05-2008 12:50 AM

Depends on the size of the tube site and size of the videos being offered.

I know a tube site with 2000 alexa ranking using 6 Gbit/s

Gasper 02-05-2008 02:27 AM

Well I guess if you have 1000 people on your site at any moment and you have your videos coded at 500 kbit/sec that means 500 mbit/sec

Dayumn :Oh crap

but of course all of those 1000 are not watching a video simultaneously so I guess the bandwidth figure is lower

mrwilson 02-05-2008 02:31 AM

it also also depend if the content is self hosted or embedded

WWC 02-05-2008 02:36 AM

just take about 1000 of your tgp pages and see how much traffic you have = bandwidth usage...

* result may vary from webmaster to webmaster depending on how much traffic you can send to it :-)

lbc213 02-05-2008 03:03 AM

My gay hardcore midget tube site uses a exabyte per hour, I am on a $5 shared server and its fine.

J.P. 02-05-2008 03:31 AM

Haha, love that 42 answer :) Now you only have to find a question...

Bossman 02-05-2008 03:38 AM

I know a guy with a tube site, it's not huge, but it is using 250-300/Mbit all the time.
The alexa is in the 5000.
For the video servers he uses 3 $799/month servers, with 100Mbit per server included, so thats $2379/month + some servers on a quality network for the front and database, so it probaly works out at at least $3500 - $4000 a month. He makes about $200 - $250 a day with AFF and some other sponsors, so the profit is probably around $2000 - $3000 a month.

mryellow 02-05-2008 04:10 PM

Takes no bandwidth.

Use sponsor FLVs.

-Ben

RayBonga 02-05-2008 04:18 PM

Damn, that sounds expensive

If making a dollar meant fucking others, I would rather not make it. I like to look at myself in the mirror too much.

In your mind every tube site has to be stealing to be profitable. It's small minded thinking and it makes your potential very limited. :2 cents:

Compdoctor 02-05-2008 07:22 PM

Have you all ever considered that I might be going non-porn with this?
