Windows XP will stop being available on new PCs from the end of January 2008.

Bullshit. Just because it's not going to be commercially available on new PCs doesn't mean it's going to be retired. Windows XP's official end of life is 2014. Mainstream support for XP will end in 2009, but then, extended support will kick in until 2014 and then M$ will not have anything more to do with XP.
