What mainstream webmasters sell or promote??

I am too long in that industry and my brain think only for adult stuff. I am just curious..how the webmasters out of adult biz generate money?
I know poker, pills and games niches but what about others? :smokin

mrwilson 02-03-2008 02:00 AM

Other then these "make a milling over night" type ebook type sites.
there are no others, not really, most mainstream webmasters (like myself) eventually move across to adult.

the problem in mainstream is that there are to many armatures, program owners that don't know how to give support or don't know shit about how their affiliate system works, shitty affiliate systems, cheap hosting with weak backbones, stupid site owners that think 3 weeks before they accept a link trade with you, long text on product sites that don't realize they have 7 seconds before I fly to the next site...
dont' get me wrong - I found a few ways to make $$$ in mainstream but it was a lot easier for me in adult where people actually fucking know what the Internet is

False. I have mainstream sites in fashion and real estate that both make money and have never pushed an ebook.

There is much more money in mainstream than there is in adult IMO. I've made more money off of very little mainstream traffic than I have off the same amount of adult traffic.

Personally, I prefer to have my hands in both pies

sitefarmer 02-03-2008 03:17 AM

Afrekete please share with us your mainstream sites :)

I tend to keep my sites private except from those that I actually trade or do business with.

Hope my advice via ICQ helped :)

I do pretty damn well in mainstream these days, WAY better than adult that is for sure

average conversion in adult for me is about 1:1000 off SE traffic, average conversion in mainstream is 1:200

it sucks though, I had a pay per click insurance program that was paying $4 a click up until a week ago when it got shut down due to fucking cheaters

other than that, it takes a lot of research to find the right things to promote..I will tell you this though, TSHIRTS do really really well...I have one buddy that is doing 1:40 with his "funny and offensive tshirt" promotions

How do you generate traffic? What kind of sites do you run?

Have you heard of glam.com ? Apparently the are buying advertising from really big mainstream fashion sites like ThePurseBlog and TheFashionSpot... Have you ever heard of these sites?

What kind of fashion sites do you own? Is the ones where they tell you where you can buy clothes as seen on stars... As seen on Paris Hilton and then id'ing her clothes with linksynergy links, or as seen on Lohan etc. Those sites seem to be big.

I notice online fashion sales are very driven by celebs these days. All it takes is one celeb in a papparazi wearing one item and the next day it becomes a feeding frenzy, everyone wants to buy it.

sitefarmer 02-03-2008 09:33 AM

How do you promote Tshirts? Blog traffic probably?

baddog 02-03-2008 10:14 AM

So much mis-information here.

There is a lot more mainstream money than adult out there.

A good salesman never needs to look for work or for his next product to sell. Mostly because it doesn't matter, all he should have to worry about is who is paying him the best commissions on his sales.

Its not about where the money is, cause quite frankly its everywhere, but its about knowing how to generate leads and close them for whichever product / service / website you are pitching.

If you want to make money you dont pitch goods and services at your targeted traffic you have selected, you pitch targeted traffic to your goods and services you have selected.

What you have chosen to sell is 100 times less important as how you choose to sell it. Just do your homework, like a good salesman would, whose paying what, how flooded is the market, is it an easy sell, how hard would it be to find that traffic for said product/site, is it branded allready, viral? etc etc.

For the record, of course there is tons of money in mainstream, Porn is in the top ten of the top 100 earners in online business. Guess what the other 99 are.

My fashion site covers celeb fashion, but its not one of those "heres where to buy exactly what she has on"...mostly because I don't have the time or the patience to track down every item of clothing someone is wearing. I cover all the fashion weeks (haute couture and ready to wear), fashion news, celeb fashion, red carpet fashion, etc etc. and it also includes beauty products.

I push sites like eluxury, singer22, vivre, beauty.com through cj, connect commerce and the like and the ratios are very nice...much better than adult. I hadn't even been concentrating on the site really because it was more of a side project and suddenly found that I had people spending thousands of dollars at a pop.

Push links to Christian Louboutin shoes, those are really hot now.

I noticed a lot of women surfing those type of sites have money to burn, people who are really into fashion with money will not hesitate to spend 1k and even much more higher for a purse etc

They also spend hours and hours online posting pics of what they just bought, and there's even fashion forums where people post pics of what they are wearing everyday. Also on some sites they have FOTD : FACE OF THE DAY where women will post their makeup for the day and id what color and brand they are wearing etc... lol

Some will also spend hours tracking down a specific item they saw lindsay lohan wearing etc.

I should start such a site actually.

Eluxury only offers 5 percent commission.

More than 60% mainstream webmasters (i think) rely on adsense to generate income, they run small dating sites, forums, directories, proxies, celeb fansites, file hosting, image hosting, faishon and cooking tips, MFAs (for loans, credit cards etc..) .. also generate leads to mainstream dating, credit cards, loans etc. .. and and and ... uh uhm .. some make and sell scripts, softwares, electronics, mobiles and shit .. some sell ebooks, and use ClickBank system to have affiliates sell their product ..

I have converted SE traffic with adult quite lower than 1:200 .. a couple times it was 1:90 .. with mainstream, its < 1:25 ... of course depends on many factors though.

nekrom 02-04-2008 06:50 AM

I prefer to push physical products via drop shipping, for high ticket prices. Rather then selling sold to death crappy ebooks. :)

Yeah, I do have a category for Christian Louboutin on my site. I also spend a huge amount of my day on those types of fashion blogs and forums. That's how I originally decided to start mine. I was spending so much of my time doing it anyway, I figured there had to be a way to turn that time into money.

If you start one, let me know and we'll trade links :)

The commission percentages are often somewhat low in mainstream, but the returns are high. Eluxury is one of the only places to promote LV products (and they have other good brands too like Marc Jacobs, Cavalli, etc), so that's why I use them.

LeRoy 02-04-2008 08:53 AM

Yah my mainstream pays for this startup in my siggy. At least a good portion anyway. I run some asp site which I am rewriting to ASP.NET this year. I sell computer data storage hardware through the same company. Trying to weasel my way into their 15k month marketing budget right now. So yah mainstream pays. For me it was a matter of "It's all who you know"

See I don't know shit about any programming and design. People know me in my last biz as a team player and the man that comes through on his word.FYI I use to wash their cars out back years ago every Friday without fail. When they heard I was trying to get into the design biz. They flowed me some work and a shit ton of it. You can check out my years paycheck at Computer Giants or http://www.computergiants.com/. It's a fucking wreck. The site makes 600-800k every month so hell yah. Everyday I wakeup I am grateful as a motherfucker.

If anyone needs any hardware I will hook you up. Hit me up direct. They have good relationships with all the majors.

yeah, thats good.

But, again, it all depends on your traffic .. if you have ebook (how to make money, get rick fast lol, work from home) targeted traffic, no use of presenting them high ticket electronics ... I know a couple guys making fortune by selling 'sold to death' ebooks and softwares via clickbank .. its same like porn, thousands of people get credit cards daily, and at least hundreds of new webmaster use google to find information on specific topic, and you can push your ebook down their throat.

and by the way, getting $19.95 out of someone's money sitting in paypal is easier than having him pay $500+ ... and more importantly, that $19.95 is all pure profit .. or in some cases costs $1 via adwords .. now you calculate ROI.

:2 cents:

Zester 02-05-2008 12:34 AM

I forgot to mention the mainsteam sponsor in my sig gives me most bank.
It DOES have that "make money fast" ebook notion talked about here, but I personally did find it interesting as a tutorial for an adult webmaster looking to go mainstream
