Don't drink alone!

Drinking alone is the first sign that you are an alcoholic.

Based on the "social drinking" way of thinking. Whereas drinking alone is not considered social behavior.

I heard it in Health class and it always stuck with me.

Think it's true?

im fucked :/

Redmanthatcould 02-02-2008 12:11 PM

The trick is how you define "social"...

You could call a friend, and drink while speaking to them. Or even text message while drinking...

Just sayin'...if you wanna justify it...there are ways...

:)

stev0 02-02-2008 12:13 PM

Either way, I don't think your liver cares much whether there's other people around or not.

Spyce 02-02-2008 12:15 PM

And if you don't remember, did it really happen?

Maybe; but refusing to have a beer because you are home alone is sadomasochism for sure.

Haha, so true.

I listen to a few podcasts and people that record them drink and talk about their drinks while podcasting. It's kind of weird because it's not an alcohol related podcast what so ever yet they want to talk about their wine or beer and say their not an alcoholic. Now, on topic, I would consider a podcast as a social event.

Maybe drinking alone is a good idea for violent drunks. At least there's no one around to kick the shit out of.

As for the rest of us I see nothing wrong with it, especially if you live alone. What, you're going to deny yourself a cold beer or glass of wine with dinner just because there's no one sitting there with you? That would be dumb.

tony286 02-06-2008 10:30 AM

Drinking alone depends on how many I would think. One beer or a glass of wine or a scotch after work isnt going to be a problem.
I remember my grandfather when he came home from work, he would grab his paper, turn on the news and grab a ice cold miller highlife. Just one while he relaxed from work.

Violetta 02-06-2008 10:31 AM

I dont drink much alone... I grab a few if I watch a soccer game

J. Falcon 02-06-2008 10:37 AM

I love to drink and smoke alone.

royaljelly2 02-06-2008 11:32 AM

This totally depends on so many factors.
I've drank alone but hardly and alkie

ztik 02-06-2008 11:32 AM

me and all my buddies sometimes all sit at our houses and play "drinking wow" / "cheers" on friday or saturday when nothing is going on. good times :)

CDSmith 02-06-2008 11:34 AM

The thing of it is, I don't drink alone often, but when I do drink alone

I prefer to be by myself.

When you are in the right mood there is nothing better than a good CD and a bottle of wine. Take the phone of the hook and turn off the comp.

I will even break my no drugs rule and have a little bit of weed as well...

Heaven....

so ... that must mean eating alone is the first sign of you having a eating disorder!

Table for one = on your way to obesity?

Praying to god, jeebus ot twatever flavour of religion you're into means you're on your way to becoming a radical extremist!!

Brother Bilo 02-06-2008 12:20 PM

This is why I pick a bar and frequent it often enough to meet all the regulars. That way, even if you go to the bar by yourself, youre never alone.

jalami 02-06-2008 01:19 PM

I guess it depends on whether you're having a beer or wine while eating or watching TV, or a glass of whiskey for later on that night..... or full-on getting wasted by yourself which I suppose is silly.

~Ray 02-06-2008 02:34 PM

who would choose wine or beer over an ice cold soda? wine taste rotten and beer taste like beer.

So when you drink with dinner, aren't you choosing alcohol over flavor?... and using "dinner" as an excuse? :)

you have to eat and drink to live.. but your drink doesn't have to be alcohol.. it's a choice, so, what's that choice saying? "I need alcohol"?

DigitalDruid 02-06-2008 02:41 PM

I have no choice, everyone i drink with has a real job.... and beer tastes best around 11am... By the time we sit down to the hockey game Im already where they wanted to be all day ;)
