Purchase Car question
I bought a new car last week and drove off with it. The dealer called me today saying they need all this proof of income (which I can supply) but it pisses me off because I thought the deal was closed.
Is there any way to back out of the contract or return the car to them and tell them off at this point? Just because of the principal of it, they did not tell me I'd need to jump through hoops a week later. |
Sounds fucking stupid! Tell them to fuck off

I believe there is usually a grace period in which you can return cars, but I think it's only two or three days.
Sounds like a waste of your time though. You bought the car, obviously you like it, just take it and move on with your life and enjoy your new car. |
Just send the paperwork. I predict a shitstorm of problems if you back out now, plus how is that going to look on your part... You decide you don't want the car just because they need income verification? They will probably think you are some sort of scammer.
Don't know why they wouldn't have asked for that before they gave you the car though. Pretty stupid on their part. |

Guess I will send them what they want. |
car dealers are famous for getting you in the car "right now" and figuring out the details later...
|
Sounds really dumb
|
pretty lame, but i went thru this too when i got my car. had it for 3 or 4 days and they said i needed to provide them with bank statements and everything else. its a pain in the ass and i wish they wouldnt give you the car until its 100% certain.
my friends bought a car and ended up having to take it back to the dealership until they could come up with more $$ for down payment... THAT was embarrising for sure |
No, there is no grace period in which you can turn the car back in. It's like putting a gun to your head and pulling the trigger - once it's done, it's done.
However, at least here in GA, cars are sold with "bailment agreements" which is also referred to as "spotting cars". IF this happens and you can't provide what they want, they can either keep the contract as it is OR take the car back. If you really want out of the car, call their bluff and tell them you can't provide the paperwork they want. They may or may not proceed with the deal. Here's a little story from a local consumer guy (who's an idiot, but at least this is accurate): http://clarkhoward.com/clarkmedia/tv/car_spotting.html |
Just provide them with anything and they'll prly take it back on their own
|
actually, you need POI if your credit doesnt match up to the car you purchased. Its common after you sign the paperwork and take the vehicle, the funding dept at the auto lender will spot this and request POI. You can refuse of course, but you WILL lose any downpayment you put down and dont expect to get a vehicle for a while, you will be blacklisted for possible fraud at most all the major auto lenders around the country. Dont flame me, this is what i do for a living. im just a hobby BS webmaster. In some states it can be a "repo" but not in NY where I am. Just black listed. Hope that helps. If the dealer gives you a problem, contact me, I'll try to help...( im the "playboy inc" of subprime finance :)

Wow thats messed up..... Please post the outcome
|
What kind of dealer did you buy it from ?
|
07 BMW, bought from a VW dealer (they own a bmw dealer, which is why they had it)
Here's a new turn of events. We went in to get some things checked out because the service light was on and it was driving like SHIT on the freeway. They gave us a loaner car, but were too lazy to take the big 07 off the car, and all the stickers (pricing, ON SALE! etc) and the guy who gave it to us said "Just don't get pulled over, you could get arrested for this" I called up the owner and told him to fuck my dick, they can keep this car and their crappy service and shitty ethics and screw over someone else. I'm not going to get arrested over a fucking loaner car. He said "No no, BRO I'll work on getting this pushed through without the extra paper work no worries we take care of our customers. And for the problems i'll give you a free detail" I told him to get his morals detailed and hung up. So now I have a feeling he feels the heat and is going to beg the credit agency to push it through without the extra stuff they are asking for. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow. I plan on raising hell. |
that's really weird.....i don't understand why buying a car always has to be messed up.

Best of luck Brad. Let us know how it works out for you. :thumbsup |
Well they shouldn't have let you drive off with the car in the first place until lending was approved and funded. So that's their own damn fault. You should just say I don't have that documentation, here's your car back and see what they say.
But if you like the car, then bitch and complain and see what they throw in for you. All of those "options" that they sell you are generally marked up at least if not more than 100% At worst case you can make a big scene in the middle of their show floor. Then say something stupid like "This isn't where I parked my car..." |
Thanks for the support guys, this helps. Sounds like I have an option if they don't get funding by tomorrow.
|
This is a classic scam.. It happened to a friend of mine. They generally prey on those with poor income or high debt to income ratio.
They will try and add on a few points on the loan because "you failed to meet the requirments" Tell them to fuck off. Either you give the car back or they honor the original deal. Good luck |
Why the fuck do dealers pull this shit? Not once have I had a straight talking saleman work with me. These days are differnet; I can afford to buy nearly any car I want. This is what I do.
1) If your trading in a car, feel free to turn in your car keys like it's no big deal. However, make sure you have your spair keys with you. 2) Get your own financing before you walk into the dealership. And don't tell them about it until the last possible moment, once you've signed their little agreement sheet. 3) If they give you any flack at all, walk out. They'll call you the following day. Trust me, they'll call you. 4) Don't wait around until the "paperwork is done". Once everything is agreed upon say "okay, call my cell when your ready to have the paperwork signed" and then leave. Don't give them the chance to haggle with you last moment. The last time I bought a car it was comical. Everything was all set and then they pulled some crap on me, and I just walked. They had my car already; I just pulled out the spairs. They called me shortly after I got home. Once we had agreed to the deal I told them I had my own financing which pissed them off for some reason. The rate was much lower than what they were offerring me. After we agreed on everything I told them to call me when the paperwork was done. When I did come back to sign the paperwork they had changed a few things, and I told them to fix it and call me when that was done. They were threatening me with "some guy is coming in to look at the car" and I'm like "Good, maybe he can buy it from you then". I had a 2004 Mach 1 I was trading in; It was paid for. It was a good car, low mileage, in good condition. I was trading it in on a 2004 Mustang Cobra, low mileage, good condiation. What they couldn't figure out was that I was pretty happy with my current car, and didn't want the new one all that bad. |
Rochard: 100% A+ advice, everyone I am talking to is saying this.
I am just hoping these fucks don't find a way to push this through. I am sick of them. |

This is pretty much correct, depending on the State you live in. I used to own a dealership and this is common practice. Based on the credit report they pulled, the F&I dept already knew they needs full docs or more down payment when they slammed you into the car but they knew if they didn't put you in a car the dealer next door would, so they took you off the market. I would fax them the docs, don't go in. If they ask you for more money down, tell them you don't have it. Next they will probably try to have you go in to sign a new contract at a higher rate. Try to negotiate back to what you already agreed on. If they threaten you, contact your local consumer agencies and press. A lot of TV stations do this on the side, if you can get their investigative reporter to call the dealership, the problem will usually go away by itself. [I used to fucking hate when customers pulled that shit]. Good luck to you. Sorry to hear you got fucked. |
I had them do something similar with me a few weeks back when I got my new car. They rushed the deal through and then came to me looking for proof of income. A buddy of mine was the sales man, and told me not to worry about it...so I'm not.
