TMZ has broken story after story in the middle of the night, detailing the second commitment of Britney Spears that occurred in the last few hours. For all of you who have just logged on, here's a summary:

Last night, Britney's new psychiatrist went to her home and felt she was a danger to herself and others -- partly because of her reckless driving and partly because of her "downhill behavior." As a result, the shrink launched a plan (days in the making) to have Britney committed to UCLA Medical Center by calling the cops.

Sources tell us the cops knew it was coming. In fact, the plan was for cops and paramedics to take Britney away the night before, but it was scrubbed. Last night, it all went down according to plan. Cops even used code to minimize craziness in transporting Britney to the hospital. Over the police radio, she was referred to as "The Package."

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ a L.A. County Superior Court judge has just signed a "5150," meaning Britney Spears is on a three-day psychiatric hold at the UCLA Medical Center.

We're told there is a "good possibility" that it will be extended to 14 days. We've also learned there have been several parallel attempts to get Britney on a 5150. Her lawyers, Anne Kiley and Tara Scott, secured a new psychiatrist late last week -- he's the one who triggered the 5150 last night.

At the same time, we're told Britney's mother, father and brother have been "working closely with the LAPD for weeks" to get her back in for psychiatric care. There is now a dogfight between Britney's family and Sam Lutfi over who will make medical decisions, however, that fight is now put on hold because the judge now makes the call.

Once the psychiatric hold ends, something has to give.

TMZ has learned the plan to get Britney into UCLA Medical Center had been hatched for days -- it was aborted last night, but executed just minutes ago. And we're told the plan was so intricate the FAA had cleared airspace in route to the hospital.

Back at her house, Britney's psychiatrist told her she was going to the hospital. Her response was, "Is something wrong?" She was not resistant. She made hot chocolate and waited before paramedics arrived and placed her on a gurney.

We're told the psychiatrist felt her condition had deteriorated. Britney had not slept since Saturday -- a day and half longer than she stayed up in recent memory.

The reason she's at UCLA is her new treating psychiatrist practices out of that medical center.

We're told during her initial 72-hour stay she cannot be forced to take medication against her will. If, however, she refuses to take meds, the plan is for the the psych to go to court and have Britney held for an additional 14 days, during which time he can administer proper medications.

And get this ironic twist -- Lynne Spears and Adnan drove to the Medical Center in the same car. A source tells us when Lynne found out Britney was being committed, she blamed it on Sam and was extremely agitated. When Brit heard that, she screamed to her mother, "Shut the hell up."

Have an uncle who went crazy, wasnt suicidal, but signed one of those, and bam he ended up in psych ward. He was just drunk, not suicidal.

Okay, I'll bite. Who do you consider famous, then? If not a woman who has her every move documented by paparazzi & gossip magazines/tv shows/websites?

Also, apparently Britney hasn't slept since SATURDAY cause she was one of her "manic" episodes (she's bipolar), today is Tuesday, which means she didn't sleep for 5 days!!

That in addition to her erratic driving is what prompted her psychiatrist to have her taken to UCLA.

According to sources Britney also has multiple personalities. Some people (such as myself) sometimes like to talk in different accents or "personalities" for fun, like a British accent, etc but apparently Britney doesn't even REMEMBER what she did/said when she switches personalities.

Also, there is a tug of war between Britney's parents and her "friend" Sam Lufti. No one knows if he is her manager or whatever but he lives with her and is like a leech I guess. Him and his parents are battling about who has the right to make medical decisions concerning Britney!

Also, there are rumours that Britney gave her friend Sam power of attorney so a judge has to decide whether Sam or Britney's family is going to have the final say about what happens to her.

I read the title "Britney just committed" and expected "suicide" to be the next word... now I'm kinda disappointed... :(

Today is Thursday, not Tuesday

It will end the second tabloids and "entertainment news" leave her alone and quit buying photos and videos from the crowd stalking her every move.

I don't think she'll be dead. She's only bipolar and most likely has some other mental problems which isn't a huge deal and which can be controlled with medication and therapy. She's taken 25 drug tests and all of them have been clean.

She's not that crazy. A lot of people have some kind of mental problem, like depression, anxiety, bipolar etc. Britney is only more scrutinized because she is so famous.

are you sure about that , i thought she had her visitation revoked because she failed the drug tests not once but multiple times, i could be wrong though , perhaps she just "missed" the drug tests and didnt fail them, although that seems pretty fishy to miss a drug test that is a condition of your custody

No, I think she lost custody right after the first time she was committed, that's when she was first diagnosed as bipolar. The first time she was carried off in a gurney was because she went mental and refused to hand her kids over to Kevin (They have joint custody). The day right after the judge gave Kevin full custody!
And then she was supposed to go to a court hearing to get them back but she never showed!!

She missed ALL her custody court depositions and hearings! She would either sleep in and miss it or she would be mental and drive by the court but not go in etc. I think she missed like 20 depositions and that's when the judge gave Kevin full custody. The last time she had to appear to one she drove to a church instead and started praying...

Stick a fork in her, 'cause that ugly cow is more than well done!

The Commissioner has just ruled that Britney will not have visitation restored, at least until the next hearing on Febru aary 19.

The order came after the testimony of several people, including two LAPD cops who responded to the craziness a week ago Thursday; Lisa Hacker, a parenting coach; Lonnie Jones, a bodyguard, and Pamela Strong, the court monitor who was present during the drama. K-Fed's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, testified as well.

Witnesses Take Stand in Brit Custody Hearing

Brit's still a no-show, but today's custody hearing is continuing as scheduled, having just broken for lunch.

A group of LAPD officers, firefighters and paramedics who were on scene at Brit's Ranchita Popwreck breakdown on the January 4 are expected to testify today. A male LAPD officer, who was one of the first responders to Brit's house that night, just finished testifying.

K-Fed and attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan are in the building, Britney hasn't even left her house. Today's hearing is considered Britney's last chance to get any custody back -- if she doesn't show, it could be over for her visitation until at least April.

Britney SpearsSources connected with the custody case tell TMZ Britney Spears has been strongly urged to attend tomorrow's hearing. We're told her lawyers know if she doesn't show, it will be curtains -- at least in the short term.

Sources tell us Brit's lawyers know Commissioner Scott Gordon expects Britney to address a number of issues surrounding the craziness at her home a week ago Thursday. In particular, commissioner Gordon wants Brit to explain why she violated the custody order by not turning the kids over to K-Fed's security guard at 7:00 that evening. The commissioner is also keenly interested in Britney's behavior that caused her to be placed on a 5150 hold at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Britney's lawyers know if she does not attend tomorrow's hearing, the Commish almost certainly will extend the ban on visitation until the April trial.

The wild card, of course, is Britney herself. She hates appearing in court and it's certainly possible she'll be a no-show on Monday. TMZ will stream live video at the courthouse tomorrow, so watch and see if Brit appears!

Britney violated her custody order, that's why she lost custody. She was supposed to share it with KFED but she didnt turn over her kids when she was supposed to. That was the same night she was commited to Cedars Sinai. And after that she was supposed to go to a hearing, it was her last chance to get the kids back.

She never went it, she just drove by, I think she just has anxiety attacks, like she will drive by but not walk in because she gets too anxious.

She never tried to kill herself as far as we know of. Today she had a "manic" episode, when people are bi-polar sometimes they have episodes and are on a high. That's why she hasn't slept for 5 freakin days! That's why she was sent to the hospital because her mental condition has been deteriorating.

Yes, you are right. Today is Tuesday. She hasn't slept since Saturday still, so that still makes it 5 days.

That's not what famous means...

Being well documented doesn't make her famous... I consider someone like Tom Hanks "famous"... Spears is not only the complete opposite, but simply an idiot.. (an ugly one at that in my opnion).

Famous implies someone who is celebrated and widely known based on their positive accomplishments.. someone who is respected (esteemed)

Spears is "infamous" which implies she is well known for an exceedingly bad reputation (ill-famed)

(fame implies that one is widely honored... i doubt Spears is anything close to that.. LOL)

Well, what you have said is merely based on your OWN perspective. Believe it or not, Britney does have adult fans who actually enjoy her music. These are mainly people who enjoy pop music and her adult fan base mainly consists of females and gay guys. I know lots of gay guys LOVE Britney's music and lots of women in their 20's do as well.

She's famous as a pop artist and I think she is talented in singing pop music. It's irrelevant that she doesn't write her own music or that her voice is computerized etc, some people STILL like the finished product and she used to be an INCREDIBLE entertainer, perhaps not a GREAT singer (but still a good one) and she was a world class performer with good stage presence and dance movies. I think Britney is a good singer even live, she does have range in some of her songs, she's no Whitney or Mariah, but she can still sing.

That's what she was famous for (way before her breakdown); she was known as the "pop princess" of the world and about to take the reigns from former "pop queen" Madonna.

Before her breakdown Spears was honored as the "pop princess" of the world. Now she has fallen off her high pedestal, but at one time she was on top.

Finally!

Some shock treatment should clear that right up.

Really sad for the woman. I hope she gets taken out of the media spotlight for a while because I feel that is what is sending her nuts.
