FACT: OS X is far superior than Windows

That is my conclusion after about 1 month of use of OS X. I can also run Windows on my MAC or virtualize it/apps if I need to.

who 01-31-2008 02:29 AM

Superior TO, not superior than :)

Mac has always been better at everything, except gaming.

just a punk 01-31-2008 02:30 AM

FACT: any OS is nothing. SOFTWARE is everything! There are much less useful software for OS X than for Windows. And this is a real fact.

Evil E 01-31-2008 02:32 AM

I don't play games. Also which software that is useful that you can't find on OS X?

A lot of. Should I make a list of everything I can't work without which is not available for Mac?

Evil E 01-31-2008 02:35 AM

I'm curious, If you can make a list or post a few examples, I would be grateful.

- Delphi 6
- Microsoft Visual Studio
- Namo Web Editor
- TrueCrypt
- WebMoney Keeper
- Microsoft ActiveSync
- AdToBoard

- AdSite
and many many more not so essential but very useful applications.

cranki 01-31-2008 03:42 AM

Thurbs 01-31-2008 04:22 AM

Evil E 01-31-2008 04:23 AM

No need for delphi on a Mac

- Microsoft Visual Studio
emacs, vi and if you want a gui http://www.apple.com/macosx/developer/

- Namo Web Editor
lots of web editors like dreamweaver for example

- TrueCrypt
Opensource software(there's already one software included with leopard to do that)

- WebMoney Keeper
There's a version for firefox

- Microsoft ActiveSync
http://www.synce.org/moin/

- AdSEO
- AdSite

and many many more not so essential but very useful applications.

Keep in mind I'm pretty new to macs

I see where you are coming from and I get your point, it must be a pain to change all that software.

There is no alternative for VideoCharge. It's not "just a video editor". It's the ONLY video editor created especially for adult webmasters. Anyone who use it knows what I'm talking about.

LOL, LOL, LOL and LOL

How can I use all these things to compile my C/C++ sources and libs that use MFC? Or how can I compile win mobile applications using those tools? Any ideas? :)

I don't need those "lots of editors". I don't use a Windows version of dreamweaver just because I don't like it. Why should I use it on Mac?

To do what? To mount all my encrypted USB disks with archives? Are you sure that "software included with leopard" can mount TrueCrypt-protected disks? :)

Nope, Keeper Light which works in browsers is not a same thing as WebMoney Keeper. RTFM please.

What for? Believe me - there are no mac versions for them and even no "alternatives".

Evil E 01-31-2008 05:10 AM

*note to self: do not argue with cyberxxx*

As for Videocharge, I think a guy created a similar prog for OS X and is posting on GFY. I did not use the prog so I don't know how similar it is but I've used Videocharge before.

Well the Ad progs, I just wanted more info as I am curious and did not find relevant search results.

I must say that you have won your argument as I don't know these programs that much and you are right.

Praguer 01-31-2008 06:48 AM

I am a currently windows user but I have to say true.

Looking forward to my first Mac in a couple of weeks :-)

The Duck 01-31-2008 07:05 AM

mac is good

CheneyRumsfeld 01-31-2008 07:10 AM

Windows 7 is coming!
Vista was such a great success microshit decided to release Windows 7, read it somewhere a few days ago. Sorry but I don't have a link to back this up, but it is true.

Gerco 01-31-2008 07:18 AM

I have officially turned off my last windows box and gone 100% Os x. I'm MSNC certified, and have been working with the Microsoft OS since it was simply "DOS". Todays OS X is better. And I have not found a reason yet to use the dual booting or virtual capabilities of OS X to use any program. Everything I have wanted to be able to do I can do with the Mac, and in a lot of cases have found the alternative programs to actually be better. BUT, I still always have the OPTION of using any windows only program I wish to.

As to the comment about there being more programs for written for the Windows OS... I don't know about that... Since OS X is a certified form of Unix, there is a huge base of software that's free. I guess it comes down to what your comfortable with and what your looking to get out of your computer. My computers are not meant for "gaming" I have a ps3 for that.

NETbilling 01-31-2008 08:43 AM

Over the years and especially in the last few since OSX, I have turned on dozens of people to Mac and not one has gone back to Windows

tony286 01-31-2008 08:48 AM

it is,too bad apple wont license it out.Instead of fucking people on cost of the hardware.

Which one is not useful you think? That was my list of useful applications. I believe another person will make even bigger list for his/her applications.

P.S. Even my bank has an online verification system (with an usb key) which works on Windows only. I.e. On a Mac I won't be able even to check my bank account :)

Of course you can... you can run Windows at the same time as Mac on the same machine.

Tony,

Part of what makes apple great is the hardware itself. Because they make the hardware and OSX things work very well. While the PCs in our office continue to have hardware and software problems, the macs keep humming right along.

I thought this thread was about Win and OS X, but not about Mac and PC.

P.S. You may be surprised, but I also can run OS X at the same time as Win on the same PC machine :)

Mitch I worked for a buy/seller of used macs. Yes the parts all play nice together but they are using the same parts that are in the window box and charging you out the ass for them. Also it could be their os is just better and the hardware line is what they tell you to make you willing to buy the overpriced hardware? Before they stopped the clones, I had a friend who had a shit load of them and he loved them, never had problems. So it makes me question the hardware pitch.

Yeah I've seen it too.

From looking at the screen shots it has a "Shut Down" menu option on the desktop.

Why the fuck would anyone want this on their desktop? Oh wait ... it's Windows ... makes perfect sense now. :upsidedow

Hackintosh :winkwink:

xroach 01-31-2008 09:44 AM

fact: ubuntu pwns them both and you don't have the sissy factor

Evil E 01-31-2008 10:02 AM

The OS X desktop is about 100x better than ubuntu's.

96ukssob 01-31-2008 10:05 AM

i completely agree. compared to running against my pc and pc based laptop, the mac OS is way faster. only took a little getting used to but i definetly prefer my mac over pc

scarlettcontent 01-31-2008 10:56 AM

I would say for overall speed it would be
No1: Linux
No2: Mac
No3: Windows

for overall functionality
No1: Windows
No2: Mac
No3: Linux

for servers its linux all the way

Fact: 90% of the world uses microsoft OS' so its a who gives a fuck what Mac can do.

jalami 01-31-2008 11:57 AM

FACT: Threads that start with "FACT:" are annoying and never seem to involve facts at all, but merely opinions.

That being said I use OS X and thoroughly enjoy it!

Michaelious 01-31-2008 12:05 PM

yeah i get told this all the time by people.

Why 01-31-2008 12:08 PM

the only thing mac is good at is overpricing the shit out of their products... thats about it... oh yea, and sending lots of threatening pointless legal letters to nine year old little girls. asshats.

When Apple allowed clones years ago for the short period of time, I had one (can't remember the brand). It was the only mac I ever had a problem with out of the 40 or so I have owned since then.

You had either a Motorola, or a Power Computing clone. They were the first to start using the cheaper IDE drives, and had some really bizarre drivers that the OS needed to work, and of course, there was no memory protection, then.

iMind 01-31-2008 02:11 PM

I have to say that while OS X is the best currently , Linux with the support from dell lately will be an emerging option more and more as they figure out the driver and software problems as more large companies jump on board.

Ubuntu WOULD be superior to all OS's if they could just work out those few last linux like problems

I've played with linux numerous times and it's fucking great, till you have to run any industry standard program , regardless of what industry you're in ... you're pretty much screwed , unless you're a developer than Ubuntu is the superior environment

OS X is far superior to windows and after a full year now from when I switched to mac, the ONLY program I need in windows is IE6 to test my layouts, Which I run via parallels.

Everyone that looks at my Mac likes it, Oh's and Ahhs's actually loves the look and OS and then follows up with " Too bad ya can't play games " , I then boot into Vista ( which gives me a 4.6 experience rating on my mac, Higher than any PC I've tested using vista ) and rock out the latest games without problem.

Sorry guys , no windows PC can beat a mac :D
Vista was a good attemp, I boot into it every now and then to look at it and see what I missed , but fact is it's a bloated, unproductive working platform.

Apple is our choice

Nookster 01-31-2008 03:03 PM

LOL, well lets see...none of my development software runs on MAC, therefore it definitely is not superior...not even close. Try again!

D Ghost 01-31-2008 03:08 PM

I haven't found there was anything i couldn't do .. or needed extra expensive software for on my MACBook Pro .. got office for MAC .. and everything i need i find and usually to my surprise it is better on the MAC .. and I do have XP Pro on here if i need it to do something PC based .. but so far the only ime i even flashed up the XP was to do something for another PC .. so far I am finding MAC so far superior that i am speechless ..

KILL_FRENZY 01-31-2008 03:19 PM

I can't wait to change windows with the Os X

JP-pornshooter 01-31-2008 03:25 PM

please spread the work: mac and OS X is superior and we must all now go and buy a new mac machine, an iphone and some ipods.

ok the truth is i own stocks in apple and needs a little boost and this msg is written on a win laptop..
and for processing photos, i prefer a win machine still.. but still pls go buy some mac/apple products...
