Brain surgery question

My friend had craniotomy 4 months ago for right convexity meningioma.
She experienced pre-op sensory seizure involving entire left side numbness and tingling.

Dilantin pre-op and 2 months post -op.

Her EEG was normal before weaning dilantin in late November.. Another EEG 01-21-08, also normal.

1.She had profound left arm weakness post-surgery. This improved but she still has constant numbness and occasional weakness in her wrist/lower arm/hand. Neurologist scheduled EMG this coming week. Will this show if she has any damage permanent or degenerative?

2. She continues to have bilateral chin and neck numbness, it lasts most of the day. Her neurologist thinks it may be temporary effect of surgery. Need more expert opinions.

3. About a week ago she began "twitchy" symptoms, while at rest. Occurring during night , just before sleep. Waking late night with hot flash, trying to get back to sleep, happens then as well. Also when she attempts to take a nap during the day.

She's currently on ativan 1mg 2 X day. Do you guys think she should change the meds? I decided to ask these questions here because I care about her and want to have the best expert opinions.

Ask McDreamy!

It may not be neurological at all. They should check for clotting in the subclavian and axillary veins.*

*This should be taken with a grain of salt (but remember, too much sodium is bad) and not be taken as medical advice for my medical knowledge amounts to little more than that contained on the back of a first aid kit.

could it be because Polish Aristocrat is hurting soo much for attention that he takes a woman's sincere medical post from a medical forum, rewrites it to match his "my friend" angle, changes the date, adds a "she" here and there then posts it on GFY for attention? Sympathy?

we all knew polish aristocrat was lonely and lame, but this has to be about the bottom of the barrel in my opinion.

hateman 01-30-2008 09:22 AM

this post was meant as a joke, to make fun of people who come to GFY, and ask all the possible, non related questions, whether tax advice or medical problems advice etc

unfortunately people with an IQ less than 100 didn't catch it, not my fault you were born stupid

also, I've had my own fair share of health problems in my life, including neurological problems (epilepsy), so I'm not 'abusing' that woman in any way :2 cents:

Sorry, I wish I could help out, but as a professional rocket scientist I don't know too much about brain surgery.
