If I take my laptop apart and knock the dust out of it will run faster???

I just re-formatted the thing but it still seems to be running slow. It's a 2.2ghz with 1gb ram. I'm sure it has dust in it as many 1yr + laptops do - so if I take the case apart and clean it can I get some more speed back. (The case seems to get hotter than when I bought it)

constructive input appreciated :)

i had a sony vaio laptop that i had to do this to. it would over heat and i found online there is a fan that constantly gets clogged with dust and shit.

its worth a shot to clean it out, get one of those cans of air and go to town... however good luck putting it back together

I have used a cooling pad 90% of the time it's on and never leave it on the carpet. They need to start putting air filters in them like every other thing on earth that sucks air.

YES, possibly..

It works like this:

If any fan in it clogs up with dust, it cools less efficiently - so often newer platforms *slow down* the processor/CPU to combat possible overheating (the CPU, being the "brain", produces pretty much heat).

So.. do it, or leave it to some computer repair shop to do it - I'd recommend actually *replacing* fans every 2 years to keep performance at mint condition...

Some laptops are a pain to disassemble without a manual. Did one of my gateways recently to replace a fan, was pretty easy but if I hadn't found the manual online I would have been fucked.

Not a good idea to do, you might mess it up.

is this serious?

why would dust affect the speed?????

no if you take it apart and blow out the dust you'll keep it cooler, that's about it. and you might also make a mistake and blow away the pixie dust at the same time! ;)
