Why would anyone in their right mind use IE?

just curious...

mrwilson 01-29-2008 01:35 AM

Because its great, i personally preffer it over any browser.
Although ie7 is alot like firefox to me.

ie6 is just plain shit

Deej 01-29-2008 01:46 AM

people are afraid of change...

theres no other reason not to make the change to firefox...

but little do they know if they dont use firefox already is.. IE is framing itself around firefoxes structure with every update....

why you ask...

well i think thats very simple...

mrwilson 01-29-2008 01:51 AM

I have both ie7 and firefox and use them both, daily.
I personally preffer ie7 even though it is pretty much firefox it performs best for me.

deanberkeley 01-29-2008 01:52 AM

I have always used it. Though, I am not afraid of change, when I see sites that I can tell in IE work better in firefox, I open it up, and surf them with it. Though, I must admit, IE isn't the best browser in the world, I have been using it since I was a 14 or 15 it seems, and I am kinda used to it.

DjiXas 01-29-2008 01:54 AM

Why would anyone in thei right mind use IE or Firefox?

Opera - the world's fastest web browser. Thye have invented all the greatest features, tab browsing, quick search, etc

L-Pink 01-29-2008 01:55 AM

I've always used it and probably don't know what I'm missing, what am I missing?

Deej 01-29-2008 01:55 AM

firefox is safer...

IE has a slight difference in picture quality...

IE is super stubborn...

firefox is way more efficient... eats a smidge of processing...

there way be some pros and cons, but i say firefox overcomes by far... thus IE taking after its smaller protege brother...

Different features, and that some sites work better in firefox than IE. Its like PC and Mac, the argument could go on forever, and probably will.

voa 01-29-2008 01:56 AM

I use IE7 and its great, and my question is why someone wil not use IE :)

ill agree with that...

rowan 01-29-2008 01:59 AM

I personally prefer Seamonkey (Firefox's little bro) but there's another reason I rarely use IE: all of the security holes.

I'm a mac user so that probably explains my behavior.

Sorry to hear :(

lbc213 01-29-2008 02:21 AM

A lot of people use it simply because it whats on their computer when they buy it, for the average surfer it does the job well enough.

Voodoo 01-29-2008 02:33 AM

All REAL webmasters know why. :)

If it works, why change it! :thumbsup

It's mostly those with alot of experience on the web, designers, coders and programmers etc seem to use firefox.

well to start off with you would use i.e. because the majority of your customers use ie so it would be silly to NOT use the most common browser on the entire internet to see what your customers are seeing. It would be like owning a restaurant and not trying the food.

If you are new at the internet it's prob safer to use firefox, if you are fairly capable you will likely use both as they both have unique features, if you are an "advanced user" you will likely use firefox primarily and ie as a secondary browser ( because firefox is easier to tweak ) , if you are an expert you are likely back to ie as master and firefox as secondary. :2 cents:

I currently use IE as primary and Firefox as secondary. I definatly with my own pages view both, but I agree with you, most people are going to use what comes with their computer IE, and we could go further than that, the more advanced a user of the net gets, the more likely they are to find tubes and rapidshare, so the more likely they are to not be paying customers. :2 cents:

BV 01-29-2008 04:02 AM

i mostly use ie because that's what the majority of my customer base uses

mynameisyep 01-29-2008 04:05 AM

IE or Firefox or other browser it's the user choice but i like firefox so much

If you haven't figured it out..............yeah I like firefox :thumbsup
BTW...I've also tried Ophra:winkwink: and its still beats IE IMHO:winkwink:

SuzzyQ 01-29-2008 04:13 AM

I cant remember the last time I used IE.

xmas13 01-29-2008 04:29 AM

When you have only IE installed, and need a browser, you don't have much of a choice. IE is pre-installed.

I switched to Mozilla, three years ago.

Violetta 01-29-2008 04:41 AM

I have no idea... I use Opera, and sometimes FF!

CheneyRumsfeld 01-29-2008 04:41 AM

IE7?
I can't understand why anyone would use windows, its an lsd trip gone horribly wrong.

Matt 26z 01-29-2008 04:54 AM

I use them both, but I am not a FireFox fanboy. I see definite problems with it.

The only reason FF took off is because of their 50c per download affiliate program. Even well known computer sites shilled for FF by writing entire articles on it and putting FF ads all over the page. Not to mention you'd go to blogs and they'd pretty much say you were uncool if you still used IE... oh, and click that banner right over there.

For webmasters FF is a very dumb browser. IE has a way of just knowing what the webmaster was trying to do. If your code isn't exactly to W3C standards, it probably won't work in FF.

FF's security is overrated. It almost certainly has many more holes than IE does. When FF releases security updates, everyone is very quiet. When IE releases them, people scream bloody murder.

And those FF plugins that everyone likes so well? They can contain malicious code. WebMonkey for instance has had problems with webmaster scammers uploading scripts that change affiliate codes to their own.

Sarah_Jayne 01-29-2008 05:17 AM

I have never liked using it and am glad I don't have to any longer. I was a netscape user right up until it became pointless to use it and now I am with firefox.

headless ghost 01-29-2008 05:23 AM

as a Zombie Master in good standing let me say right now that the first thing we look for is IE and Windows.
the rest is gravy!
:1orglaugh
I love you retards.

bokva 01-29-2008 06:02 AM

IE has alot of security holes, and most of adware and spyware are aimed at it.
I used Netscape first, then Opera, and now Firefox with a lot of plugins (that's a big plus for FF). But I miss some stuff from Opera... I used IE just on my regular jobs, when I was not self employed and I needed to use IE because of other people.
People are using IE just because they never tried to use other browsers on a long run and are feeling comfy with it.

Boobs 01-29-2008 06:05 AM

firefox is the shit

cool1 01-29-2008 06:07 AM

tried them all and like using IE

nico-t 01-29-2008 06:32 AM

i use mainly firefox, but when i make sites i ofcourse test it in IE and firefox

alby_persignup 01-29-2008 06:59 AM

because it's more user-friendly and easy navigation.

royaljelly2 01-29-2008 07:02 AM

someone switched me over to firefox because its safer. now im use to it and like the tab browsing instead of having a bunch of windows open at one time.

viencarl 01-29-2008 07:40 AM

I use firefox since I was in high school it was introduce to me by my brother and with too many add ons it makes my surfing faster and easier;)

Evil Chris 01-29-2008 07:52 AM

I use both IE and FF all the time. FF is usually more stable. (ok always more stable)

genoveze 01-29-2008 08:04 AM

I see no disadvantages at using ie7 especially

And why would you prefer that a browser (IE) ignores standards nearly completely? There are dozens upon dozens of discrepancies, in the rendering of XHTML/CSS, between IE and FF. Why? Because IE throws the standards out the window, and even with a strict dt, IE does its own thing.

It's tough because a lot of us grew up coding for IE and their "standard", so I understand, but really there is no reason to support a browser that disregards standards. Obviously since their lack of compliance has lasted for so long they can't just flip a switch and start being compliant, and in their defense they are slowly (very slowly) moving towards compliance from what I have seen, but still what the hell.

On that note, I use IE and FF fairly equally.

Paco, of Large Cash. 01-29-2008 08:51 AM

why do I suddenly want to be a kitten??

Scott McD 01-29-2008 09:46 AM

Hmmm, i actually use both. Hadn't tried FF untill fairly recently though...
