wtf - can a cell phone company deny to give you an unlock code?

Ive been with Fido in Canada for 4 years using the same cell phone. I moved to the UK and want to use another sim card since theres no Fido here, so I need to unlock my phone.

So I call Fido up, adn the guy tells me they dont unlock phones and hung up on me

What the fuck?

Of course your cell company won't give you an unlock code... that would defeat the purpose of them locking the phone in the first place. Try looking it up online, shouldn't be too hard to find out the info.

Go ahead and get some cheap phone and make a note of this and don't ever use fido again. If you live for another 30 years then you will have fucked them out of at least $30,000.

Exactly and exactly.

What interest do they have to give you the unlock code? Then you can use it and they won't get a dime out of you. Do like stev0 says, find an unlock code online.

You take the phone to the company you want to move to, and ask THEM to unlock it.

Asking your old company to unlock your phone is like calling up your old cable company and asking them how to use the decoder with Direct TV (in their mind.)

Fido blow chunks. :2 cents:

Which phone/model you've got?

Find the code online or tell them it's a temporary thing to use the phone while you are visiting UK might work
