Conversation with my 2 year old re: cigarettes

So I?m reading a book on the history of cigarettes in America. Title: "The Cigarette Century: The Rise, Fall, and Deadly Persistence of the Product That Defined America"

My 2 year old sees the cover of the book and says ?Cigarettes, Daddy??
?Yeah, cigarettes?.
?Mommy smokes cigarettes??
?Yeah, mommy smokes cigarettes?.
?I smoke cigarettes?.
?No. Daddy and _______ don?t smoke cigarettes, they can make you sick?.
?Mommy smokes cigarettes, I smoke cigarettes?.

:pimp

Mr Pheer 01-28-2008 04:21 AM

my dad died from lung cancer when I was 7 years old... so fuck cigarettes...

I've never smoked because of that.

Sarah_Jayne 01-28-2008 06:16 AM

Sounds like she understands second hand smoke already.

ADL Colin 01-28-2008 06:20 AM

Interesting book by the way. In 1904 a woman was imprisoned for 30 days in New York for endangering the morals of her children by smoking in their presence. A number of states initially outlawed cigarettes.

Violetta 01-28-2008 06:43 AM

hehe... rolemodels.

Fletch XXX 01-28-2008 06:45 AM

time for mommy to quit.

Davy 01-28-2008 07:32 AM

I don't see any reason why I should smoke. Especially after having seen those pictures of totally black and unhealthy lungs.

cool1 01-28-2008 07:52 AM

I think cigarettes, and other tobacco products should be made banned

since tobacco has little if no real value it is time society got rid of it.

for real

This is why it's fucked up for parents to smoke in front of their kids. You're either telling them it's okay to smoke or you're telling them you don't care enough not to endanger your own life. Both the wrong message to be sending.

Funny how times change.

My mom sent me to school on Halloween as a pack of "Kool Milds" back in the 3rd grade.

Agreed !

It pisses me off to be honest. They preach to kids about how bad smoking is, while making them breath in smoke at the same time from their own cigarette...

BlackCrayon 01-28-2008 08:58 AM

Get her to say that in front of mommy. Should have some impact.

sniperwolf 01-28-2008 09:12 AM

that's just shows that whatever children sees to their parents, thought it might good, so better not show them when you smokes...

Not a smoker here anyway. :)

Fap 01-28-2008 09:40 AM

Id like to start by asking why you are reading a book on the history of cigarettes?

Then id like to say monkey see monkey do

reminds me of the Bill Hicks piece where he is in a truck stop somewhere and the redneck employee ask him while he is reading a book:

Reddneck: "What you reading for?"
Redneck: "We got us a reader"

hicks: "Ive been asked what are you reading, and such, but never what are you reading FOR?"

"I dont know, maybe so i dont end up working at a fucking truck stop?

Hmmm. I've read about 75 nonfiction books a year for the past 20 years. Have to keep changing the subject or else it gets REALLY repetitive. Just browsing for books and it seemed like it might be interesting.

Hmm.. whats the verdict?

PornMogul 01-28-2008 03:32 PM

The commercials worked on me :disgust

RayBonga 01-28-2008 04:00 PM

My parents bought me chocolate cigarettes when I was a kid, maybe I should sue them

We had those and bubble gum cigarettes (and those nasty hardlike candy ones that were white with an orange "flame" at the end). The bubble gum were the best because they were wrapped in paper and if you blew just right, you could make "smoke" come out of your cigarette :)

A little over 100 pages in. An excellent book. One of the better I've read in the past year.

They still sell those up the road from here. Candy/gum cigarettes. Knock off logos and everything.

Children are like little sponges, they soak up everything around them.

and I see cops throw cigarette butts out the window almost every week while out running errands.
