I would never vote for Obama, or any Democrat for that matter, but I found what he was saying in that speech to be quite inspirational. A society where everyone could stop classifying themselves and others according to things like race and ethnicity would be a much better place. Obama seems to really believe in a color blind society like MLK talked about, but he is the representative of a party which crams racial quotas, ethnic classifications and the politics of victimization and multiculturalism down our throats on a daily basis. Too bad he does not really mean what he is saying because a society where people stopped considering themselves African American, Hispanic, Muslim etc. and started to consider themselves Americans would be a real improvement over the current state of affairs.

So, do you vote at all?

Do you wake up early in the morning, do your yoga and eat your tofu?

All good and well but you keep leaving out the key factor that there is roughly 6X more whites than blacks and Hispanics in America and yet they hold only a 1.5% lead over blacks for welfare.

Poverty is a cycle. Breaking the cycle of poverty is a hurdle that many blacks fail to overcome.

Other races usually have some type of help from other family members. Hispanics, Jews and Asians always pool there money together to buy themselves a house.

Black people don't because they come from broken homes.

it's a cycle because they get welfare and they think of it as a lifestyle instead of TEMPORARY help as it was intended. This goes for whites too. where I live there are very few blacks. All kind of whites that are on welfare and stay on it. I don't care what color you are when you basically stealing my money so you don't have to work then I get pissy.

fact is 1 out of every 10 black males between 15-40 is either in prison, jail on parole or on probation. No other race has that many.

Why not?

Many reasons, just a few:

-Hispanic isn't a race; nor is there parity between Hispanics and Asians in terms of "success"
-Asian Americans aren't a representative sample (the best brightest with money emigrate to the US). One can compare Black African immigrants with Asian Americans for a more valid comparison.
-racial divisiveness has been greatest among American blacks and whites, (think Jim Crow, slavery, etc), and Native Americans.

This isn't to say that there aren't cultural issues unique to Black Americans that could be done away with for their betterment. It's just to say that when making raw comparisons of the kind made by GatorB, a lot of confounding variables are introduced.

143 year is really not a long time for wealth to even out. Especially considering forces suppressing their ability to vote, get educated, get jobs, and borrow money to build capital. This will take centuries to balance itself. You can't have one segment of the population own all the money, power, and land, then expect it to be equal in such a short time. Wealth carries on from generation to generation and carries with it the ability to have a headstart in society.

This isn't an excuse as their are elements to the black culture that make an individual more condusive to commiting crimes. But it is important to factor in that crime rises with poverty and lower levels of education.

You are correct, no one is born a racist. However, based on many studies, racists tend to have lower IQs, been raised by lower educated parents, and majored in less challenging studies.

As for your comment on age, that is more likely due to the fact that older people lived through more racist times. In fact, back in the 50's it was shown that the average age for racism was 12 years old, with it diminishing greatly upon adulthood. Most likely the reason you see older people more racist is because they grew up under racial tension and heavy prejudice from family. Younger generations grow up in more diverse situations where race is not as much a factor in their lives.

As for success, they own under 5&#37; of businesses in the country and have a median household income $10,000 less than a white household.

Then how is Obama going to change anything? You can't have it both ways. Either the US in now enlightened or it's not. You can't say America is ready for a black prez, but yet "the man" continues to hold down the brothas.

Obama isn't going to change shit. I never said he was. All these people are the same in the end. They care about getting elected, getting their buddies some power, and appeasing the people who helped make it happen. They'd slit anyone of our throats for a chance at being in the White House. And even if they were the rare breed who actually wants to change things, there is no way Congress or the lobbyists in power would allow it to happen.

And I'm not saying the man is holding down the brothas. I'm saying that it's wrong to blame the problems facing blacks strictly on the type of melanin in their body. There are huge gaps in poverty and education. There is no way that you can overcome those gaps within a few generations when all the power and all the money was in the hands of whites.

Take this for an example. Take the great-great grandson of some redneck hick in Arkansas. Now take the great-great grandson of Bill Gates. Which one is most likely to be succesful? You just can't expect a race that had nothing in this country to make up that gap in the matter of a few generations when power and money play such an influential role in who we become.

Why do you feel Chicago is so racist? I'm sure there are racist elements to the city, but I never felt an underlying problem here. There are a lot of black and hispanic elected officials in the city. Heck, the County President and a few of our US Representatives are black.

I spent a lot of years there. In comparison to the other top 10 market cities I've lived in, as well as some smaller cities you would think should be worse, the mentality of the people in Chicago overall is not where it should be.

Did you ever notice how heavily segmented it is by race.

Spend some time in other major cities and you will immediately feel the difference when you come back to Chicago.
