I post this from iPhone but my laptop can't boot up and when it does it goes to a black screen (racist?????) and says "a disk read error occured press control Alt delete to restart" and when I do that the same screen still comes up!!!!!!!!!!! Is it hard drive or wat plz help!!!!!!! :(

Sounds like a hard drive to us also. You might want to invest in an external HD when you replace that one.

Check your laptop manual to see if there's some way to jump into the BIOS and change settings. It's not usually obvious like it is with a desktop PC (eg "hit del to enter setup") and some laptops may not have a setup screen at all.

Either your hard drive or your OS. See if you can get into safe mode - F8 while the laptop loads up.

Most older laptops don't allow you to boot from an external hard drive, but if it's newish, you should be able to. The thumbdrive craze made motherboard manufacturers adapt.
