Scientology and many other religions have PERSECUTION COMPLEX, nothing more nothing less.

People make a lot of money off presenting themselves as "persecuted."

Everyone from blacks, to jews, and scientologists and gays.

There is BIG MONEY IN PERSECUTION COMPLEX.

Keeping the constant idea that one group is being persecuted because of its religion is almost necessary nowadays for certain types of groups to succeed, Scientology being one of them, and groups like Revered Jessee jackson and Al Sharpton are another.

The only thing that really separates the two is during what year and what geographic location you happen to be standing... and what the consensus of the general populace of that year and place feels is the most agreeable at that moment.

I'm not trying to upset anyone - but I do feel that people often forget that.

... and, as whack as their teachings may seem to be - Scientology's legal offensive is a lot more civilized than the methods employed by some of today's more established "religions" in their historical efforts to become mainstream cults.

I disagree. There are a number of other things which seperate the two:

The ultimate aim of the phenomenon.
Philosophical premises.

i.e. are they after religious or mystical experience (the basis of the major traditions) or a protection mechainism, (animism etc), or making money/gaining power (most New Religous Movements).

You can argue this shit from various points of view. Ultimately my own reflex is to call Scientology a cult as it was brought into being by a crooked Science Fiction author.
