"How to Make a Killing in Small Town America"

In Plainville, a town of 2,000, Chuck Comeau knew he could overcome the problems he had in running his high-end business from Los Angeles. "The work ethic and loyalty here are amazing," he says. "People here just get along."

The Internet makes it possible to manage remote manufacturing, as well as 17 showrooms across North America. "You can now do just about anything in a rural community," he says.
:) The power of the internet. I also wanna join a small community. Sick of big city morons and bitches.

Problems with small communities:

Sheltered, stupid people.
Lack of females.
Everyone knows everyone else... rumor times.

k0nr4d 01-24-2008 07:40 PM

I went from vancouver to village in poland...

- EVERYONE knows you. Even if you don't know them. I picked up package from post office, didn't get ID'd nor did I even have to say anything. Lady I have never seen before knew exactly who I was and why I was there.
- Every girl in this village/town is like 16, or a cousin of mine.
- BORING.
- BORING.

and inbreeding

farkedup 01-24-2008 09:26 PM

some of the people here would LOVE the lack of females....

I grew up in a small town myself but one of the bigger towns 15 minutes away started cracking down on the drug dealers BIG time and within a year the small town I grew up in suddenly had WAY more blacks, mexicans and other thugs pedaling their drugs all over the place.... within 5 years the elementary schools took a huge dive because of a huge influx in families with way more kids than they could afford... 10 years later.... Finally got decent football and basketball teams....

Everyone seems to know my business too, at least the things I don't want them to. If they don't know enough, they'll make something up. Small towns can be the pits! On the other hand, there are advantages.

I don't like very small towns and I surely don't want to spend my life in a huge metropolis. Small cities around 50k are the best. :)

i live in vegas, lived in buffalo and another city at 20k... the smaller one was my favorite. it was just big enough for change and meeting new ppl and just small enough for some peace.

Jace 01-25-2008 02:34 AM

dude, you do NOT want to live in a small town

my wife is from a town in kentucky that has like 3500 people total population...it SUCKS..people are ignorant, racist or bigots a lot of the time and just suck...they hate ANYTHING different whatsoever

small towns are nice to visit, but you don't wanna live there

do what we did...pick a big city and find a small town right outside of that big city...same small town appeal, people are generally more tolerant and you have a big city right near yah

Small towns are very clique-ish. Fine if your moving in with a porn business and don't have to rely on getting a job there.

Last small town i lived in:
The post office personal were all related
Bought a CD player at Pamida (local store) for 70 bucks next week saw the same thing at Walmart for 30.
Got arrested and was thrown in jail overnight for not returning a rented video.
The best jobs in town were all occupied by people with the last name Krutsinger.
Got pulled over for going 28mph in a 25mph zone.
Got pulled over twice by two different cops in 2 blocks.
Cops idea of a crackdown? Pull over everyone on the loop that didn't have license plate lights.
Had a cival lawsuit going againest a cop (none cop related though) so the police department sent me a letter saying for now on the sheriff office would now be handling any issues i may have so not to have a conflict of interest. Ironic part is that the sheriff office and the city police department shared the same building and often road in the same cars as the other department on patrols.

One of my most favorite irks in that town. I was in high school lived 10 miles out of town. The rule of thumb ( it was also published in the paper). The school super intendent lived on a gravel road, the rule of thumb was if he could get to the school without a problem then there wouldn't be any 'snow cancelations'....

The problem was the dumbfuck lived on the same road that the county sowblows had its depot on!!!!! Got 2 in school suspensions for that shit. Happend to lots of people.

I love small towns. Planing on moving to one as soon as I can that has a population of about 2500 people.

InternetIsForPorn 01-25-2008 07:46 AM

Smaller towns are a definite relief from all the "gtfo of my way" metropolis way of life.

Kelli58 01-25-2008 08:04 AM

I always thought it would be nice to live in a really small town with a population of no more than say 2,000 or so.

I had a friend who did it and he and his wife are very happy now. Of course they over built. Put a huge house in the middle of a shit hole of a town so they stick out like sore thumbs but hey to each his own. :P

camperjohn64 01-25-2008 08:07 AM

Im planning on picking a small town, that has all the females that are missing from all the other small towns.

I live in a small town with about 2500 people, it's only 20min by car to a City with 100k though

xmas13 01-25-2008 08:30 AM

I was born in a city of 100k in a rural area.

I miss it. :)

Now i live in a metro with three million.

nico-t 01-25-2008 08:30 AM

btw i live near a small city with nothing to do whatsoever. When i go out in the bars, it are always the same bars and the same people there - i really hate it.
Hm just checked the population on the web and it's around 80k... not really 'small town-like' compared to the examples in this thread, i guess it just feels that way due to the lack of bars and clubs here - it's a boring city.

The Heron 01-25-2008 08:32 AM

Small towns are boring, and as said the females for the most part suck.

Here's the thing: the people that stay in a small town are the people that are too dumb or too ignorant to want to leave and make something of themselves. So you end up with a pool of losers and a few decent folk.

Brother Bilo 01-25-2008 08:38 AM

I'm not one for full time small town living. I'm a suburbinite. I dig living in the burbs, major city with shit to do is close by, but I don't have to deal with the big city bullshit.

Although, if I could consistantly get to work without dealing with the freeway traffic, I would be much happier.

yumma 01-25-2008 08:42 AM

small town rules!

This I can verify as FACT.

I grew up in a small town of 2500 and lived there till i was 26. There are some nice things about it. Never have to wait in line at banks, they all know you by name. No lines at resturants. No traffic jams, rush hour, etc. Like others have pointed out though, fucking boring. Everyone who is going somewhere has already left so the people who stayed aren't typically the brightest. If you don't have to get a job there thats great because wages are much lower than in big cities. Not to mention, at least where i came from factories are constantly shutting down and moving to mexico or china. And yes, major lack of females. They all go to college and never come back and the ones that didn't have slept with half the town already. I miss the quiet of the small town and affordability of real estate but not much else.

100K is NOT rural.
