Shoulder Dislocation. Who's got personal knowledge?
I think after several (10+) shoulder dislocations, I'm finally ready to get things fixed up once and for all.
I originally popped it out playing football in high school about 10 years ago, but now I seem to do it anytime I do anything slightly out of the ordinary (ie: learning a new golf swing or trying to hit a softball to the opposite field). I've even dislocated it unzipping my pants to go to the bathroom and this morning I even knocked it out for about 30 seconds simply getting out of bed. :mad: AHHHHH!!! :mad: I recently had some knee surgery performed after tearing my ACL in a mountain biking accident. Now after about a year, I'm back up to 100% with the knee and seriously thinking it's time to get my shoulder done too. Has any one had shoulder surgery? If so, what did you think about it and how are you feeling today? |

Nope, just had one dislocation. Just curious, do all these dislocations hurt as much as the first one? I remeber my first one(3 years ago) and I never felt so much pain before...

My shoulder is so messed up right now I can barely move. I have to get in one position and then try not to laugh, cough, or move a certain way. My neck and arm hurt like hell, too. Thankfully, it's getting a little better. Sunday and Monday were hell. Have you ever taken something called Flexeril? I have some but I'm scared to take it because pain medicine makes me puke and I don't like feeling all loopy. I know it's not the same thing, but I don't know what it will do to me. |
24+ dislocations and sublexations between ages 17 and 25, mainly from football, but the odd fight and "party trick" thrown in.
Arthroscopic reconstruction followed by 11 weeks of intense rehab and I was back on the field. 15 years later still going strong, although (and for those that know me they will be surprised), not as strong as I was once was. SOOO important that you start the "retard rehab" ASAP after surgery - day 3 for me back then - as the little stuff that sucks and seems pointless makes the difference between 3 months and 6-12 months full recovery. I started in the mornings at the physiotherapist and gym for a couple of hours, then off to the acupuncturist, then to the pool for an hour then to the massage table... EVERY day, 7 days a week for 11 weeks, slowly increasing and adding and enhancing. Hard work, but worth it. 2c |

1st time, i was 13.... 22 years later - still pops out (yes, still hurts like a mother every time...) i would say that i am close to 100 times now. i have thought about the surgery many times. please let us know how it goes.... |

I had chronic dislocation in my right shoulder and it would pop out of socket daily as a result of playing sports. To make matters worse I had an "accident" where I had my scapula shattered on my right shoulder.
I have had reconstructive surgery on each shoulder, plus three scopes on my right and one on my left. I wish I could tell you some good news, but both my shoulders still hurt when it rains, and I have less than 50% mobility in my right one. |
Torn ligaments that are never allowed to properly heal are why this issue recurs. The ligaments must be repaired (typically borrowing them from elsewhere). I dislocated a finger once and was instructed by the doc to immediately tape it next to a "good" finger for what seemed like forever.

I was doing my rehab at the same gym the local football franchise trained at in the lead up to the playoffs... So here are all these guys pumped up and training like animals for the big games while there sat I rolling tennis balls on a bench and squeezing tennis racquet strings and doing wrist curls with a 1kg dumbell and riding the exercise bike like a spastic with the sling on and all. Very humbling those first couple of weeks. But I can still now lift guys like Steve PP or Big Moe or Joesho up in my arms like they are babies because I did the hard yards then. Fucking big babies I might add. ;-) |

I did it playing hockey take CTB's advise do the rehad religiously. Make sure you do the climb the wall exercise stretches it the best and strengthens it. If you did it too many times surgery is the only answer but it will bother you a bit for ever. SO last piece of advise. ADVIL sorry to hear mine still hurts!
