Oscar nominations out in a few minutes

I know there are a few film buffs around. I know they are largely BS but I can't help but still be interested.

They are due out in a few minutes and then I can make a list of what I still need to see...

selena 01-22-2008 06:36 AM

I'm watching for them, because I want to see if Johnny gets a nomination for Sweeny Todd.

He was ... I am seeing that on the weekend. I think he has a tough field. Viggo was outstanding in Eastern Promises and Daniel Day Lewis has the buzz with him already.

Damian_Maxcash 01-22-2008 06:46 AM

I didnt go to the Movies once last year....

Sarah_Jayne 01-22-2008 06:48 AM

It wasn't a fantastic year but there were some good things. Of course, most of them are only just opening in the UK.

Sounds like I have to see Juno.

bobby666 01-22-2008 07:58 AM

I am not big on costume dramas or Kiera so I have put it off but I will watch it now just to see if it is any good.

Yep, heard a lot of good things about it. Didn't get a chance to watch it yet though...

selena 01-22-2008 08:10 AM

I am so uncivilized. I've only seen one movie off that list, and I only saw that because of who was in it.

Zebra 01-22-2008 08:14 AM

The long shot on the beach in Atonement is awesome. That shot alone is worth seeing the movie. Ending is a bit of a bummer, but the first 1/3 of the movie is very good.

gornyhuy 01-22-2008 08:14 AM

I haven't seen any of those, haven't even heard of a lot of them, and don't recognize half the actors names.

What the hell happened to me?

JUSTB 01-22-2008 08:19 AM

I am scared of Daniel Day lewis. He keeps playing these creepy intense characters.

As a card carrying film geek, I know I should probably see the movie, but I just keep getting English Patient flashbacks...but if I can at least geek out on a shot like that, it might not be a totally wasted effort...

needlive 01-22-2008 10:09 AM

Anyone knows why I'm missing from the list?

AZSarah 01-22-2008 10:12 AM

I have not seen any of the nominees for best motion picture.
I am going to see Juno this week though.

I hope Laura Linney wins in the actress category. I really like her.

SykkBoy 01-22-2008 10:12 AM

a couple snubs worth mentioning:

Josh Brolin - No Country For Old Men (I know Bardem is getting all of the praise and deservedly so, they should just give him the statue already) but I think Brolin's work was overlooked as well...if we don't give a shit about his character, than Bardem's character doesn't have the impact he does...most underrated performance of the year

Gone Baby Gone - best picture and another nod for Casey Affleck (hey, if Cate Blanchett can score two noms in one year, so can the younger Affleck brother, hehe)

Allison Janney - Juno. Ellen page is getting all of the accolades, but I just really liked the performance Janney gave as Juno's stepmother....

AZSarah 01-22-2008 10:16 AM

And Marion Cotillard was amazing in La Vie En Rose. I would like to see her win for that.
A win for either Laura Linney or her would make me happy. I don't particularly care about the rest of them.
