VISA Regulations and You

So, we have all sorts of reactions on how people *feel* about this. My question is, how do you think these new regulations will actually affect your business?

SpeakEasy 10-02-2002 04:51 PM

Bro, by all of your posts today on this subject, it seems this little fee that is being impossed is killing you? If things are on that tight of a rope for you, then maybe it is time for you to rethink your business model, or even just give it up??...I'm not starting any crap with you, it's just that you keep making refference to how this is hurting you so bad?:(

gothweb 10-02-2002 04:55 PM

Don't assume that my indignation is all about me. I am going to make it through this just fine. I voted for inconvenience. I am complaining because it is the abuse of an ologarchy, and I don't think our billers did enough to cover our asses from this. Personally, it will suck a lot but that's it.

BJ 10-02-2002 04:57 PM

no effect, Ive gotten out of porn.

Goonx 10-02-2002 04:59 PM

We use CCBILL all the way, but since we are located in Canada, it will take some time for us to get back to normal...

So in the meantime, we already have an approved account with a different, Canadian, billing company, and are ready to recieve payments ...

Even a backup affiliate program for HornyDollar is already online and ready to recieve traffic... only a few more modifications needed ...

CCBILL will become our secondary processing company untill this thing passes over, than, hopefuly, its back to normal ...

:BangBang: BRING IT ON VISA! :BangBang:

Have to go with your best guess or gut instinct, I guess.

gothweb 10-02-2002 05:26 PM

So far, looks like a third of the people voting are in serious trouble...

So, why are so many people saying "No big deal, this is good for the industry" again?

Sly_RJ 10-02-2002 05:31 PM

I think we all need to quit our whining and get back to work.

Marcus 10-02-2002 05:32 PM

Isn't the $750 a tax deduction anyways? It's a cost of doing business.

hardly the point.

jimmyf 10-02-2002 05:36 PM

I really do not think this is ALL about Visa recouping lost funds. KimmyKim could answer this am sure... after all
doesn't a pay site get charged over and above the charge back (a fee or fine).... Visa has something else up there
sleeve... And fraud in the porn Biz is not Visa biggest problem.... The little bit I do know..is A LOT more fraud going on in other area's and for a lot more money... Shit they my be Beta testing this new system on the Porn Biz.. who in the hell knows.... But I do believe there is a lot more to this than just the Porn business.. I could be WHY wrong....

gothweb 10-02-2002 05:37 PM

Even if it was just a tax-deductable expense, a $750 (or more) expense at one month's notice, just to keep doing business at all is pretty tough. To say nothing of people who are in countries where no amount of money will help them with this.

The one month notice was pretty shitty.

gothweb 10-02-2002 05:56 PM

That's what I was saying. There isn't a lot about this that isn't shitty, in one way or another, for a lot of us.

gothweb 10-02-2002 06:16 PM

Ineresting spread. "No effect" is 25%, bad effect is 25%, annoyance is 50%. Has been that way for a while.

kevinl 10-03-2002 03:31 AM

When the mob tells you to give them $750.00 if you want to stay in business it is called extortion and is illegal.

When VISA tells you to give them $750.00 to stay in business it is called ....

Well... the answer is in your question.
Because it wipes out 1/3 of competition.. weak competition:

survival of the fittest!

As for you: although you always have been a crybaby
i dont dunderstand why this is such a big issue for you.

You have a great niche with great content and this
situation could be fatal for you?!
You've been doing something wrong for a long time..or so it seems.

C'mon man.. stop wasting your energy, take another
prozac and stop crying. Im sure that if ONE 'small' paysite owner
has the potential to survive it's you. No reason to bitch.
Just start working and please, stay away from trains and bridges.

Jon 10-03-2002 04:04 AM

yah time for a new subject of the day like...

which bomb would make the largest crater in Iraq?

gothweb 10-03-2002 05:30 AM

Everyone is assuming that because I am upset about this, I personally must be doomed. Did you see the post in this thread where I said "I voted annoyance", MrThumbs? I am fine. I just hate to see any new factor in the business that favors the big shitty corporate sites over the small, independent, creative ones. In the long run, it will be bad for the industry and the viewers. No more new or small true amateur sites! No innovation from new people!

Because HALF you little fuckers shouldn?t be in the paysite Biz ANYWAY...ANYTHING..that raises the bar for nonprofessional point of entry into an already saturated Business...anything that moves this biz away from mom and popism and toward consolidation and stabilization is a good thing...its a natural progression in any biz and it will continue...ie who can remember the 200 car manufacturers that competed against Ford in 1905...anything that separates the wheat from the chaff is always healthy.

This kind of shit makes me sad. Should a writer not be a writer because he can't afford not to work, and make a full time go at it? I bet there are a lot of amazing authors, poets, and artists out there who would disagree.

This is a business, but that isn't all there is to it. It is a creative endeavor-- or fucking should be. I am one of the people who will survive... but I am saddened to think how many excellent sites will be put out of business by this, and how many creative new people will never get started.

If you think this is all about money, business, and the bottom line, and don't care about creativity, then you can Suck My Nuts. That goes for anyone on this board. I hope there are a few people out there who aren't blinded by dollar signs.

Dude, this isn't art or poetry. It's porn. I agree that the new regs are fucked up but acting like this biz is somehow important for anything other than spanking it for the surfer and making money for the webmaster is kinda ridiculous. My :2 cents:

Writers? Poets? :1orglaugh

Man.. too much Harry Potter i guess..

Wake up and smell the coffee:
This IS about $$.. this is BUSINESS.

People that want to unleash their creativity should
start a non-profit nude site and never refer to money.
There's a name for that type of individual: ARTIST.

They hope, after years and years of struggling
to be 'recognized'. 99% of them die before that happens.

And there's a big difference between an artist and an
'adult webmaster'. Really.

Trust me.. the 'creativity' we will miss does not compare
to the enormous amount of shit we will 'miss' in the near future.

jas1552 10-03-2002 07:48 AM

This doesn't affect me at all but i'm wondering if webmasters from other countries aren't able to get everything done in time but are a little late does that mean all their rebills are gone when they do get their shit set up?

kÿ®ëë 10-03-2002 07:57 AM

I believe this is one of the best things to ever happen on the internet...'cept for cable access LOL...it's about time people were held accountable for their actios...it's time shitty webmasters were gone...if you cannot get the 750.00 needed to play the game then maybe you shouldn't be playing...like some has already said...maybe time to reconsider your career choices....everyday I hear horror stories about people getting burned by shithead webmasters with shitty content...maybe it's time to quit crying and start designing...I am sure the time spent bitching here could prove alot more productive spent on ANYTHING ELSE

Someone on this board mentioned that checking accounts are treated differently.

Maybe someone can talk to Visa/MC about the way they would handle the transaction if a debit/ATM card is used to pay for the transaction.

BVF 10-03-2002 08:17 AM

I'm exhausted of this subject. I woke up this morning and within 10 seconds, I was thinking about it.

I've made my decision. I like having the freedom to move to any country I that I wish. The whole reason for me doing this is to be able to eventually live in the caribbean or in africa. When and if the embargo on Cuba ends, I'm DEFINITELY getting a place in havana.

Losing my visa rebills will hurt....they will hurt A LOT...and I just took off the trials and the sales are still good. But in the long run it will benefit me.

I don't have thousands of customers to lose like others so I'll be able to recover within in 2-3 months. I have a whole month to warn my customers about the change and hopefully they'll switch over. I'll just have to cut my weed expenses from 100 to 50 a week for awhile, buy some more traffic, and hope for the best.

Thank God for Clickmemedia, Freeezinebucks, and Sexkey. Y'all are going to be paying my rent and buying my groceries for the next few months.

gothweb 10-06-2002 01:26 PM

You know.. if we all start making our money through AVSs, then Visa will just target them, too.
