When you lease a car - can you modify it at all??

If you lease a car are you allowed to make changes to it? For example different wheels and springs to lower it?

Fletch XXX 01-21-2008 07:06 AM

are you for real?

sexuallyhealed 01-21-2008 07:09 AM

Yes why? I never lease cars. I always bought my cars upfront fully paid.

the definition of lease is "temporary possession of.."

sure, the next guy who leases your vehicle wants it all ghettoed with 20s and lowered.... and dont forget those autoparts store "racing" stickers on the doors.

I don't think my question was dumb to begin with.

Either way , changing to nicer wheels shouldn't matter since you can just put the original ones back on when the lease runs out.

TidalWave 01-21-2008 07:32 AM

sure, you can do springs and shit just keep the original ones and swap it back later and sell the after market stuff and make back some $.
no reason to give it away to the dealership for free

LeRoy 01-21-2008 07:35 AM

Just save the original parts. When you turn it in put the parts back on. Most leases dont see the end anyway. Well mine do. If I see any fees I just take a drive to TJ and send em down a cliff somewhere. Thats the best way to end a lease. They fuck me so I fuck them.

Here's a thought. Seriously, it's so insane, nobody ever thinks of it: ASK YOUR LEASE COMPANY.

Some lease company will actually supply you the car with the mods.

Why ask them? Dont you know? .. GFY is a place to ask every type of shit .. most of us are expert legal advisers, financial consultants, doctors, food experts, counselors, dating masters, sexual advisers ..

.. and now .. Leasing Agents :winkwink:

o yeah, i forgot .. some of us are adult webmasters too :pimp

Wagerboy 01-21-2008 10:09 AM

yes you can, just dont mod the engine, the leasing companies scan the computer to make sure nothing was done. as far as wheels or springs, keep the oem and take them off when returning and sell them on ebay. will cost you next to nothing. wasnt a stupid question at all, not sure why fletch was attacking him.

MediumPimpin 01-21-2008 11:32 AM

I do all the time, tons of mods, then I just trade the lease in to another dealer :)

The last time I did this was with an M3, traded it in on a Porsche.

the Shemp 01-21-2008 12:46 PM

rims, tires, cold air induction etc.... never had a problem turning them back in..

I imagine it's just like an apartment that you lease...

Do whatever you like - but make sure all the holes are patched and all the walls are the original shade of white when you leave.

GTS Mark 01-21-2008 12:54 PM

You can do it but you have to bring the car back in the condition you bought it in. It's really not worth it TBH...

farkedup 01-21-2008 01:58 PM

if you're only leasing a car don't bother... BUY a car if you want to modify it....

Ryan St. Germain 01-21-2008 02:05 PM

typically not. You have to keep the car original, or only makes changes performed by the dealership. Modifying a car changes it's value and negates most warranties, so any mods you do usually have to be done in a way that will be universally accepted as an improvement (ie radio upgrades), not affect the warranty, and be performed by the dealer.

you have the accounting skills of a 4yr old. how exactly do you waste a pile of money on stupid cosmetic shit that screams "i'm an immature asshole that should be avoided if you have an IQ over 40 or your over 16yrs old" and then "sell it to make back some $$"?
