disk cloning: Paragon or Ghost ?

my dear disk cloners, which one do you use ? Ghost 12v or Paragon Drive Backup ?

if you don't know what i'm talking about:
one day when my hard drive goes belly, I don't want to waste 2 hours installing windows and all the other programs like EditPlus, PuTTy, Photoshop etc. all over again.
the lazy man's solution is a disk clone.

My girl turned me on to Ghost. I'm down to one Windows box, but I format and reGhost once a month on average.

I've used both, I believe Paragon is faster but both are just as effecient and easy to use.

Try Acronis True Image. I use version 10 but I belive version 11 is available now. Simple to use and works like a dream.

why would anyone want to erase source disk ? isn't that the opposite of the purpose of a disk backup ?

bobby666 01-22-2008 04:26 AM

i am alway using ghost

Acronis true Image works like champ! Go with that and you won't be let down.

Octopus 01-22-2008 07:22 AM

I use Ghost

I'm going against the grain here and saying +1 for a reinstall of applications then a restore of data... less chance of things fucking up. (In my case it's not even possible... my RAID driver will reboot endlessly if you restore system data)

dready 01-22-2008 09:21 AM

I like Acronis.

kapopoy 01-22-2008 09:44 AM

it's only 50 bucks. Don't be a cheapo -- give them the money they deserve for a great product.

I've used Paragon yeaaars ago, and have been using Ghost since 2001. I always end up going back to Ghost, because I have the CD right there.

I know, that's exactly my point!!!!
In acronis, there's an option to erase / repartition the source disc as part of the process of imaging it!!!! and just pray the process doesn't have any hickups??? :Oh crap

Why would you ever do that!!!
put it in the stupid features box and leave it there!!!

Zester 01-24-2008 03:44 PM

tried Acronis, works great.
