A blow by blow account for all you boxing fans

Round 1

Round 2

Right from Trinidad, left to bodyt. Right/left from Tito is blocked by Roy, but a left lands to the body. Roy lands a couple of lefts, then Tito responds with lefts and rights. Left downstairs from Roy. Flurry from Tito is blocked, and a nice straight right from Roy. Tito finishes with a couple of right hands to the chin.
Kieran Mulvaney scores it: 10-9, Trinidad
Darius Ortiz scores it: 10-9, Trinidad

Round 3

Jabs from Tito. Left from Roy. Each man just misses with lefts. Tito is stalking, Roy circling. Roy lands a nice counter right as Tito comes in. And another. Left hook from Trinidad. Trinidad launches flurry to body and head, but Roy is blocking them, and showboats and taunts Tito, beckoning him in.
Kieran Mulvaney scores it: 10-9, Jones
Darius Ortiz scores it: 10-9, Trinidad

Round 4

Roy trying to rope-a-dope, lure Trinidad in and then counter him, and he lands a couple of sharp lefts in the process. Tito starting to hesitate just a fraction. Sequence of vintage Jones lefts lands flush, and then another. Jabs from Tito, and a straight right from Roy, who is starting to time Trinidad now.
Kieran Mulvaney scores it: Jones, 10-9
Darius Ortiz scores it: Jones, 10-9

Round 5

Roy starting to initiate some of the exchanges now, flinging in solitary lefts and rights. Jones standing in pocket, blocking many of Tito's blows, but not really landing enough in return. A flurry of body blows from Trinidad at the end of the round may have won the frame for him.
Kieran Mulvaney scores it: Trinidad,10-9
Darius Ortiz scores it: Trinidad, 10-9

Round 6

Steady jabs from Tito, who is looking to work the body, instead of battling Jones' high guard. Left lands from Jones, and a sharp right, in Tito's corner. Two left hooks from Trinidad are blocked by Jones. Left, right, uppercut, right hand combination from Jones. Tito jabs, but Roy lands another fast flurry.
Kieran Mulvaney scores it: Jones, 10-9
Darius Ortiz scores it: Jones, 10-9

Round 7

Tito backs Roy into the corner, thumops away to ribcage, but Jones backs him onto the ropes, and lands a beautiful short counter right hand that sends Tito down on a delayed reaction. Tito looks badly stunned, but beats count. Instead of jumping on him, Jones lets Tito recover his footing, and Trinidad begins returning fire with jabs, until another Jones flurry punctuates the round.
Kieran Mulvaney scores it: 10-8, Jones
Darius Ortiz scores it: 10-8, Jones

Round 8

Tito is fighting back, landing left hooks to body and head. Jones content to follow Trinidad around the ring and look for opportunities to counter. A lead right lands high on Tito's head, followed by a left hook and uppercut which catch him on the chin. Roy blocks a Tito flurry and lands a right at the bell.
Kieran Mulvaney scores it: 10-9, Jones
Darius Ortiz scores it: 10-9, Jones

Round 9

Roy lands a left-right combination straight down the middle, and another right. Tito flurries, but again Roy just blocks almost everything, before backing Trinidad into a corner and unloading his own, sharper flurry. Beautiful left uppercut from a distance lands from Roy, and then a hook. A right hand backs Tito up again. Trinidad is throwing, but his punches have no zip to them.
Kieran Mulvaney scores it: Jones, 10-9
Darius Ortiz scores it: Jones, 10-9

Round 10

Looping left hook from Trinidad leaves him off balance and Jones lands a short left hook in response. Tito comes forward, walks into another hook. Tito attacks with a three-punch combo, but Roy responds with two vicious right hands. Tito is still standing though. Ooops, not for long: Another flashy Jones flurry ends with a straight right that puts Tito on the seat of his pants at the end of the round.
Kieran Mulvaney scores it: Jones, 10-8
Darius Ortiz scores it: Jones, 10-8

Round 11

Not surprisingly, Jones is looking pretty relaxed in there, as he should be, given that this is pretty much a sparring session for him at this point. He is moving forward, landing left hooks to head and body, mixing in an occasional right hand, and stopping every now and then to raise his guard and block Trinidad's attempts to respond. Give Tito credit, though: He is outgunned and outclassed, but he is hanging in there, and throwing punches.
Kieran Mulvaney scores it: Jones, 10-9
Darius Ortiz scores it: Jones, 10-9

Round 12

Jones is dancing and smiling as Tito presses for an opening. Then Jones launches a brief flurry to rock Tito back once more. Jones retreats to the ropes, Tito fires to his body, but his punches have no effect. Jones lands a sharp counter, and a leaping lead right hand. A right uppercut/right hand/left hand combination lands for Jones, and then another flurry. A four-punch combination bounces off Tito's chin. The fight ends, and the two men smile and embrace. Easy night at the office for Jones.
Kieran Mulvaney scores it: Jones, 10-9
Darius Ortiz scores it: Jones, 10-9

Roy Jones has earned a unanimous decision over Felix Trinidad (116-110 twice, 117-109).

I'm impressed. I never took you for a boxing fan.

Was a much better fight than I expected. Roy showed remnants of prior brilliance and Tito looked ok too but def. one foot in the grave. I felt like I got what I paid for though so I'm happy.

Roy Jones was scared to fight Trinidad a few years ago... I hate Roy Jone with a passion. He's a pussy.

Trinidad would have laid Jones out a few years back when Trinidad was calling him out. But no... Jones was always too scared to get his head rocked. :321GFY

yep BobG,

Although Im a very non aggressive softy,I like boxing for skill, tactics and motivation and I love to watch how a champion who is behind in a fight figures how to overcome the situation :thumbsup.

I look at it more of a science than just knocking hell out of each other :)

I actually stayed home for this fight tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tito looked good in the early rounds, but Roy Jones Jr was just too big and too fast for him, and really dominated the fight after the first few rounds. I truly believe Tito still has some gas in the tank, but has no business fighting at 170 again.

I do tend to agree with Max Kellerman about Roy Jones Jr's decline having a lot to do with his rapid fluctuation in weight. You look at Roy fighting at light heavy for a long while, and then going up to heavyweight to win a title, and then back down again, and you realize he taxed his body way too much. He also come back way too quick after getting KO'd by Antonio Tarver and really underestimated Glen Johnson.

Favorite Boxer? Well I've got a hometown boy named Robert Guerrero who is a champ and Ring Mag #2 right now who of course I have to say is my top priority as a fan. Other than that, style wise... hell, Roy Jones looked good tonight. I know he's past his prime but that style is just something to be sought after. Also, Pavlik.... yikes. He's scary right now. Nothing special, just a really tough, well built, grounded good fighter. The Marquez bros are fun, Rafael M v Vasquez II is gonna be nuts. Mayweather v DeLa II is a joke, please don't buy that out of principal and in protest of a possible III. Young fighters, up and comers... Alan Green, Andre Burto. Oh, Oh..... I got it......... NONITO DONAIR!!! Best poud for pound fighter next to Floyd in the biz.

Tito could never have touched Roy and it's not about heart, it's about size. He's just too small.

Claire, a girl who likes boxing?? I need to make a point of meeting you at the next show ;)

Also, NOBODY who gets between those ropes is a pussy.
