Is this legal? And Why dont you content people...
My friend just told me he is being harrassed by a photography company that is basically trying to extort $3000 from him via snail mail, based off a web site script he purchased in where there was some pictures that claim to be owned by this company used in the default templated script you install from scratch lol.. The letter claims that it doesnt matter if you bought a script, that its your own fault for not investigating the content and you have to pay up these fee's to avoid a suit that will result in larger infringment penalties.
So instead of DCMA'ing him and getting him to remove their supposed licensed stock photography, value ($2) from my experience of buying it... It looks like they just decided to bill for infringement Says he gets one every month for 5 months and don't do nothing about it and wants to see where it goes... Says it'd be worth it to be sued as he wants to countersue for extortion.. Anyone have a clueon this? Is this legal? If so why are not you guys doing the same? I mean if 2 pictuers of some girls face both stapled together, not more than the size of a dollar bill, is worth $1500 each... Whats an entire porn clip worth $25,000? A porn movie $250,000? |
The ones with stolen content aren't based in the us. I cant imagine what it would cost to go after someone overseas.
