VIDEO: I created something that I think you could use.

I'll show you how to build one as well. And I'll even show you it in action. You could spend hundreds, even thousands (up to $16,000) on a real one, but I just wanted one to fuck around with, and I didn't want to pay 1K just for a few hours worth of fun, and not have an orgasm at the end.

I plan on building a much bigger and bad ass one this year.

Your feedback (here or there) is greatly appreciated.

That is totally fuckin awesome

I want to build one now - only theres no good water round here to use it..

thanks Redshoe

(ps - I didnt notice any appearance by the red shoes in the film - that was a little let down)

your voice is puuurty

Doug of Montreal 01-17-2008 12:03 PM

Great how-to! I'm heading away to Caymen next week... wasn't thinking about bringing my cam, but if I can build one in time... I just might!

Babaganoosh 01-17-2008 12:03 PM

Very nice. If I weren't in Kansas where there is no water I would build one of these.

Awesome Idea, and I will most likely be building one soon.

Basic_man 01-17-2008 03:44 PM

Pretty fuckin' interresting! You did good work on this one!

L-Pink 01-17-2008 03:45 PM

What a handy guy, nice job!

justinsain 01-17-2008 03:53 PM

That's awesome :thumbsup

I've always wanted to get some surfing video from the water but the cost of a housing wasn't
worth it. This is a perfect alternative. Great job on the video and thanks for sharing.

One thing sticks out and that is you said to put the camera on manual focus. So how can I take video
of something up close and something far away?

I'm guessing it has something to do with the auto focus plays havoc with the plastic lens of the housing but was just wondering why you said manual over auto.

Yep, if you leave it on auto, you run the risk of filing an air bubble for an hour. Best to just put it on a manual mode and not having to worry about it. I have a wide angle adapter screwed to the front of that little camera so I was able to almost touch that puffer fish and keep the camera in focus.

That small Pani is a 3CCD camera so it's small and packs quite a punch on quality. In fact when I bought it was the smallest 3 chip camera you could get.

CurrentlySober 01-17-2008 04:14 PM

I actually looked at the full size pro housings... Then I went out and bought a tiny hand held waterproof camera ! Wish Id seen this post first ! LOL

Thanks ! One to keep in mind for sure :)

Dude.. with your girls and my camera.. think about. :thumbsup

And no, I mostly read horror magazines and playboy. :(
What I do isn't rocket surgery, It's just my strong desire to build shit and nothing to really focus it on, so I end up making shit like this. Did you see my sockball video? :1orglaugh

That is awesome, nice video!

DBS.US 01-17-2008 06:56 PM

Looks great, but I have a question. Why 1/2 Plexiglas? I would think 3/4 would work and its at most hardware stores.

Ha, I read mostly MAD magazine and turned to National Geographic for my smut (until I found my Dad's "Naturist" mags and 8mm stag film stash in the garage, LOL).

Definitely plan to hire you as a shooter for some projects in the future, including one with your waterproof cam. :thumbsup

Post a link to the sockball thread...

3/4.. is pretty damn thick. If I were going deeper and needed that much support, then I'd not only go thicker, I'd redesign the housing to withstand the pressure.

The reason I chose 1/2" was because the flange edge was 1/2" thick so the acrylic sits perfectly in there.
http://creativealloy.com/underwater-...lange-edge.jpg

My next one though, won't go inside a flange or anything. The acrylic will come off completely. The Camera will be fed thru the front instead of the back.

DBS.US 01-17-2008 07:43 PM

Typo, I was thinking 1/4

If I could, I'd build me a house out of Bondo.
Hmm... One of theses days, I just might.

Thanks,

I plan on doing a much more pro one later this year, maybe in a month or so. I want to make it large enough to fit a AND OPERATE a DVX100B or a VX2100.

I have to factor in controls. I still think I could make it so that it could be VERY affordable.
