Do a little research on the Thai immigration website. What may have worked for someone in the past may NOT be true now. The Thailand laws are constantly changing. Starting the process from the Thai consulate in your home country is the best way.

Best option... 1 year multi entry non immigrant visa

Worst option... 30 day border trips, switching visas (tourist to paid then extensions, etc). A pain in the ass.

but absolute worst ...

getting a Thai bride :pimp

I stayed 15 months on a 3 month visa, and got fined $3 per day overstay when I left at the airport.

It cost me just over 1000 but saved me having to leave come back etc.

Please check if its still the same as I dont want you to get in trouble

now this sounds good, anyone else done this?

jscott 01-17-2008 03:09 AM

If you get a tourist visa, for 2months, you can go to immigration while you are in Thai to get another month extension

but i agree, go for the 1 year visa

good luck!

ps. oh, and overstay is now 500 baht PER DAY!!! That is about $15USD per day so if overstay try not to go too much overboard

Christina Muller 01-17-2008 03:10 AM

What some did that I met simply flew to the nearest island for 1 day and flew back and got a new visa on entry,I met one german who had done this for 15 years.

Again please check with the embassy or others to make sure what is possible now and what is not :)

NP doing that. You can overstay 10 years and still only get the maximum 20,000baht (I think that's the maximum) at the airport.

But if the police catch you anywhere else but the departure area of the airport you will face some serious problems.

Yeah I heard you can go to jail for that.

Btw border runs are pretty fucked up, I'd suggest getting a visa that lasts longer than 3 months.

As jscott said, it's $15 a day now in Thailand. They've tighted down most of the regulations and loop holes for long term stay.

Why are they so picky with their visa regulations anyway. Wouldn't it be a good thing for them to have more western people with money in the country? :upsidedow

If they reduced visa regs, they'd be full with pedos within a month.
Best to keep the rules strict.

Because almost every country in this day and age have these entities called States, which are basicly monopolies of violence who are feed with self-contradicting rules created by the most irrational, unlogical, immoral people of the masses - the politicians :2 cents:

isn't it 90 days, or thats just for US?

WTF are you talking about dude? There are no 90 day visa on arrival for Thailand, USA included. Paid tourist visa's are 60 days, and can be extended for an additional 30 days to make 90 days total. :upsidedow
