Introducing MacBook Air. The world?s thinnest notebook.

MacBook Air is ultrathin, ultraportable, and ultra unlike anything else. But you don?t lose inches and pounds overnight. It?s the result of rethinking conventions. Of multiple wireless innovations. And of breakthrough design. With MacBook Air, mobile computing suddenly has a new standard.

This is fucking cool
one minus it's doesn't have a CD/DVD drive

WWC-Pajio 01-16-2008 02:23 PM

nice one

Brad 01-16-2008 02:31 PM

another minus is the one usb port and yet another is the lack of wired networking possibilities. Then you could talk about the price and the small hard drive, etc.

Perfect example of design over function.

StuartD 01-16-2008 02:33 PM

It's almost as hot as this:

The thing doesn't even have a built in DVD drive. I don't understand why anyone would pay about twice the price of a regular macbook for what amounts to a severely gimped macbook.

Again, for those of you hypnotized by this little laptop: it is inferior to a regular old $1200 macbook.

sweet ") looks nice

LOL, you say this in every thread. I use my DVD on my computer about 2 times a month max. Wouldn't bother me one bit that a light mobile laptop for on the go didn't have a fucking DVD player in it.

stickyfingerz 01-16-2008 04:02 PM

Well not quite there yet, but some amazing innovations that will later on be impressive. Not a mac fan at all though. But being a traveler that is tired of his 9lb laptop which is about 11lbs with powersupply and accessories and bag, it does appeal to me somewhat.

tony286 01-16-2008 04:03 PM

built in ram and battery not thank you

If you want to piss your money away on an inferior computer, go ahead. Clearly you aren't computer savvy so here's a little comparison that should clear things up for you and anyone else who thinks this thing is "awesome."

Macbook Air
-----------
1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
2GB memory
80GB 4200-rpm PATA hard drive1
Total: $1799

Regular Basic Macbook
-----------
2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB memory
80GB hard drive1
Combo drive

Price $1099 (add $150 to bring it to 2GB of ram)
Total: $1249

The difference gets even more significant when you look at a Macbook pro. You can get a MUCH better Macbook pro for less than the top of the line macbook air.

Macbook Air
------------
1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
2GB memory
64GB solid-state drive1
13" display (lol)
Total: $3098

Macbook Pro
------------
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1680 x 1050 pixels
2GB memory
160GB hard drive1
8x double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 256MB SDRAM
17" Display
Total: $2799

The macbook air is an inferior computer in every way EXCEPT size. That is the only advantage it has.

Clearly you don't understand the whole point of the computer, which is its size, so any other spec comparison is pointless. It's not meant to be a work station.

Ya I am trolling... you're the idiot who doesn't understand the whole point of the computer & posts in every thread "It doesn't have a built in DVD", you probably got pissed when they stopped putting Zip drives in too huh? That breeze you feel on top of your head is the point passing over you.

no, he's right.
The sole purpose of this computer is it's size. It's designed for the traveller who wants the convenience of a PC that'll go everywhere and not be bulky. It's not meant to run programs faster or hold more mp3's.
It's simply a web browsing, email accessing, personal computer that goes with you while taking up less space.

For many people, they'll pay more for the convenience. They are not concerned about processor speed.

Macbook
Height: 1.08 inches (2.75 cm)
Width: 12.78 inches (32.5 cm)
Depth: 8.92 inches (22.7 cm)
Weight: 5.0 pounds (2.27 kg)

Macbook Air
Height: 0.16-0.76 inch (0.4-1.94 cm)
Width: 12.8 inches (32.5 cm)
Depth: 8.94 inches (22.7 cm)
Weight: 3.0 pounds (1.36 kg)

So at its widest point, it's just over 1/4 of an inch thinner. It's also 2 lbs lighter. That is pretty insignificant in terms of portability.

2 lbs lighter is almost half the weight. That is significant.

And you can argue it until you're blue in the face. That size difference matters to people and it will sell because of it. And it'll have very little to do with the rest of it's specs. People who are quite computer savvy will still buy it simply for it's size, no matter how much it pisses you off.

Pisses me off? Why would I care if someone is dumb enough to piss their money away on an inferior computer? I'm more aggravated that people act like this is some kind of innovation. It's a step backwards if anything.

Let's call this thing what it is at least, a slow, gimped laptop with 1 usb port, no ethernet connector, old processor technology, no internal dvd drive and a battery that you can not replace. It's a computer aimed at people whose primary concern is how cool they look sitting at Starbucks. I think Apple will sell the shit out of these things. There are LOTS of people out there that have more money than sense.

I am beginning to think that maybe you're a fat computer.

Nope, far from it. I think it's funny that people are actually foaming at the mouth to order this computer.

That looks pretty slick for a Mac
