I got $45,000.00 to spend

I quit my job and got a $45,000.00 check from my 401k and I want to get into this industry. Is it worth it? If so How should I invest this money?

I am highly educated and tight so I won't fall for any scams so say what you got to say and I'll take it to heart.:2 cents::thumbsup

Tough one, really. It's kind of who you know, like with anything else.

If you're serious, and you're not afraid of hard work, then I suggest this:

Invest your money in low interest stable one year return. Get a job with someone, even if it's at the bottom, and work your ass off over the next year. At the end of that year, evaluate if you want to be in this business and if you think you now have enough knowledge.

Take that $45,000 and wire it to me, I have a brid... Not really.

Do what I did way back when:
1) Cheap shared hosting account
2) Find sites to promote that you'd sign up for
3) Learn about freesites
4) Submit freesites

live frugally off the $45,000, and assuming you make a freesite every single day, you'll have 365 out and about by the end of the year. Eventually, it adds up.

Unless you have become disabled your 401 check gets 10% lopped off for early withdrawal penalties, then it's subjected to your normal tax rate for fed/state. Now you have about $30,000 ... good luck.

Bank the $45,000. If you can't get started online, adult or mainstream, with a few hundred dollars another $45k will do nothing for you.

If you are asking what you should get into in this industry then this isn't for you at all. You can't come into a situation not having any idea or passion behind what you do, you won't end up succeeding.

My advice, go to the next tradeshow/convention look around the showfloor, talk to people and see if this is actually for you. This isn't all tits & clit. And it certainly isn't quick easy money.

It's hard to impress someone with 45k here:)

If you need a consultant to get you into the PPC game, i got just the guy for you. You're looking at 10k+ though for him to even talk to you.

But PPC is definitely the way to go for someone with no other obvious skill set.

45K is not a lot of money...to make anything serious now a days...

he can start up several sites and affiliate program and have most of the money left for marketing. i'm of course talking about non exclusive content and cheap designers (but some of them are really good).

Well the smart think would of been to do is roll that money over into an IRA for tax purposes. It is still there and could be used as leverage to gain money if you really needed it. Not positive if you still can, for awhile I know you had up to sixty days to do it but I am not to sure anymore and lets face it I never had a job with a 401k.

I also more than likely would not of quit my main job to become an adult webmaster right off the bat. Though that does take some serious balls, I hope for you it works out. Yet starting a thread saying you have 45k to spend alone scares me. Maybe something like I have 45k to invest would of been a better mindset.

Unless you really plan on buying out an exsisting site or starting something fairly massive 45k is really just to much to play with. Not saying it would not hurt with the right game plan though I have this odd feeling you do not even have a game plan and just some cash and ideas of what this business is like.

You could burn through 45k pretty quickly trying to learn this business. If I were you I would start part time, work somewhere to bring in an income to live on and learn an aspect of this business that you want to pursue.

For real though, if you're new to the industry and maybe if you're not sure how web stuff works, my advice is set up a game plan. Read ynot.com and as many articles you can find. Read xbiz. Research everything you can, read tutorials that you might find. Think of that as a job and bust your ass getting as much information you can for a month. Once you've done this you will have an advantage over many people just starting out.

Working for yourself can be challenging. You're going to fail at many things but you'll gain knowledge to help your next venture. A 'venture' can be anything from building free sites, blogs, galleries, AVS sites with xxxsexticket.com or even building your own paysite.

Also look at people giving you advice, if it looks good and they talk about negative things and saving money, working, blah blah blah, basically telling you what you don't want to hear, use the search function at GFY and see if they're a scammer or a douche bag. Use this as part of your research. Then ignore them and move on.

With no experience I would certainly not pump 45K into this business. Try to get in with a company and learn some stuff for a while. Take what you learn and start investing your 45K and see where it takes you.

Why did you quit your job? My first year I worked a day job and worked on my business on nights and weekends.

Look for a new job, save teh money make a safe investment. Learn teh ropes of this biz while you work in sth else. Once yo know sth, then invest a bit and see how it does. Repeat.

I can build an entire program ( 10 sologirls 5 multi niche sites 5 video niche sites 5 tgps) and turn that into $5k-$10k a month.
