Here's an example of offensive copyright enforcement

it does work. you have to invest in it to make it work.

1. dmca notice to host (3min)

2. 2 hours later

3. gone.

nope

the EU has simular laws, a DMCA isnt official here but most hosts do reply

Rapidshare is german, they do reply, weve send to others who replied as well, "portretrecht" as we call it - copyright to an image - is all over the EU

They reply because they don't know better, just like non-us programs posting 2257 info on their sites. Copyright is something different than a DMCA letter.

Were a non US program but we process and host in the US so 2257 has to be there.

A DMCA is needed where someone infringes copyright. There are english example letters for the EU as well regarding copyright issues. Even though a court order wont get you a million they still do reply and remove the copyrighted images.

What about all the damage that has been done?
What about your time invested in finding it?
What about your time invested in making sure they don't do it again?
What about your time invested in finding others ripping you off?

It's all bullshit.

Why does a movie you rent or buy at the store have an FBI warning with a $250K - $500K fine attached for copyright infringement?

This whole thing is fucked up.:2 cents:

Cheers,
BV

agreed man. either we can take the actions to limit further damages or we can just sit idly by while people like lars laugh at us on industry panels and tell us to adapt or die.

:2 cents:

DMCA to Google... Believe it or not, they will take it down (after longer than 2 hours of investigation, but they will do it).

Then make MONEY! Nasty Dollars makes a boat load of money and can pay the yearly fee of a content cop in one day. Of course their Fling dating is full of copywritten content too so they might not be the best example.

TheMaster 01-20-2008 08:31 PM

I think part of the problem is that sponsor programs mostly seem to do shit about this, when you sent them urls of infringing websites, most seem to do nothing.

time to start busting the big forums that actively promote full gallery zips

maybe we should make a list? (make sure not to actually put a working link)

my entry: forum dot glam0ur dot com -> they say "PLEASE DO NOT POST EXTERNAL LINKS UNLESS THEY ARE A LINK TO THE FULL FILE eg RAPIDSHARE/MEGAUPLOAD"

That's a piss poor excuse.

But i'll spin it anyways:

They could take the money they would pay their "Content Cop" and do something better with it.

Like divide it up amongst their affiliates, as a bonus, contest, etc etc....
